I teach school, so my schedule during the week is very structured and I have little control over it. Here's my pumping schedule during the week:
5:45- pump for 45 minutes. I usually get 8-10 ozs
10:00- pump for ~22 minutes. This is my "lunch". I'm currently getting 2.5-4.5 ozs depending on how much I got that morning.
3:00- pump for 30 minutes. I usually get 7 ozs. By this point I'm at 20-22 ozs on the day no matter what.
7:30- pump for 20 minutes, if I have time. Many nights I'm home by myself and B is at his "sleepy" hour so it doesn't always happen
Then I pump before I go to bed. I finish my day between 28-30 ozs. If I didn't pump in the evening, I pump for at least 45 minutes.
Anyway... here's my question. During my "lunch" that pump seems like a waste. However, I can't back up my 3:00 pump... I'm at the mercy of my school's schedule. Do you think I could drop that pump? If I dropped it, I would probably make my 3:00 one more of a power pump. I'm nervous because I'm 6 mos pp next week and am wondering if I will experience the "drop", so I don't know if it's a good time to drop that pump or not.
I really miss my friends at lunch. I already feel out of the loop because of my maternity leave, but I'm starting to feel more and more like a cow. When I'm only getting 2.5 or 3 ozs, it's especially annoying because I feel like that could've waited. I'm twixt. WDYT?

Jersey thought it might be too long to go from my AM pump until after the school day was over (my planning bell is 1st period so pumping then really isn't a viable option). What if I pumped while driving to school? I know I would have just pumped, and this is what I did when I first went back to work.
So my new schedule would be:
5:45 for 45 minutes
7- I'd probably be able to get about 2-2.5 ozs then... I know I did before.
3- power pump while driving around town- to MIL's and then home, or just to home and right when I get home
possibly 7 pm- short pump
just before bed ~10:30- 30-45 mins.
Any thoughts???
Re: RP: Experienced EPing Question...
I think you will have trouble going more than one time 7+ hours. I can go over night, but I need to do my next pump in 3 hours to assure my supply stays up. Try it and see how it goes. Could you get up earlier and pump before getting ready?
Good Luck.
I am glad you asked this.... I am a teacher too and thinking about where and when I will do this? We joked with our prinicpal...the only male in the bldg that his office will become a pumping station/nursery in the fall becaue there are 4 teachers prego.
Out of curiosity...why do you pump in the am for 45 minutes? I'd cut that downt o 25-30 and then pump again during your prep and then even during lunch. My LC (my friends mom) told me to never pump more than a 1/2 hour (why I am not sure..but the LC's in the NICU told me the same thing)...I've been pumping for 7 months now due to my girls premature birth.
Are you looking to increase your output? If so I'd do this schedule:
5:30-6 pump
I'd pump for 20 minutes out of hte last 1/2 hour of your plan (this gives you enough time to clean up and go to the bathroom if you need to)
pump at 3 or depending when school gets out, I'd pump as soon as kids leave my room...your principal and friends would understand why you are not doing hall duty (this is what I do...and theya re cool with it at work...I refer to it as Mommy duty...there are SEVERAL of us who do this at work and therefore miss hall duty.
short pump at 7 and then pump for 30 min before going to bed.
I wish I could stop at 30 minutes. I have a huge let down that happens about that time every morning and lasts for a good 10 minutes.
Unfortunately, pumping during my duty time doesn't work... I work on a team, and my duty each day is a team meeting, which entails discussing student issues, meeting with parents, phoning parents, emailing parents, or helping out students. Our school is majorly into intervention, and I have kids show up in my room about 5 mins after the last bell of the day rings for extra help (I teach math). It's a high school so it's different than an elementary building. My principal already lets me out of my 1 day/week of lunch duty so I can pump. That's about the only motivation for me wanting to keep that lunch pump.
I get to school at 7. My plan is from 7:15-8 and my lunch runs from 9:53-10:23 (no, I'm not kidding). My next break during the day is about 3. The kids let out at 2:05, and I usually have students in my room from 2:10-2:45 or so. I then pack up my stuff, make sure I have my copies made for the next day, and finish any emails that need to be done. I always pump on my drive home from school (or to MIL's to get DS), so pumping at the end of the day is not something I'll do when I'm minutes from getting in my car to go home.
For now, I'll keep the lunch pump. I miss my friends, but I'm reminding myself that this is only for a few more months. DS's intake is already decreasing as he eats solids more and more. He's now at 30 ozs/day of EBM and he was at 35+ for the last 2 months. I know his intake will drop off in the next month or so... especially when we go to 2 meals/day. My schedule now gives me 30-32 ozs/day (on a rare bad day 28), which is what I need so that's good.
Thanks for listening to me ladies!!!
