Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When are you christening?

My MIL is coming to visit when DD will be 2 mos old ... she lives halfway across the country, so we don't know when she'll be back again. Somehow I got it in my mind that we should try to time the christening when she'll be here so she can be a part of it.

So now we're christening DD when she's about 8 weeks old. Does that seem too soon?

Re: When are you christening?

  • You can Christen her whenever you'd like to. ?I would've Christened DS at 2 months but that was during the Christmas season and just a little too chaotic. ?We're actually having him Baptized this Sunday and he'll be 4 months old next week. ?I know some people wait until their LOs are a year old or older.

  • Someone told me that I should have my baby christened by 1 month!  HA!  Like I've even been able to make it to church since she's been born!

Unless it's strictly mandated by your religion, you can baptize whenever you want.

  • Our church only does baptisms every so often so we had to wait until DS was almost 2 mo old. My mom gave me a complex about the fact that DS would end up in limbo if he died before being baptized. It was horrible. I had nightmares.
  • Definitely not too soon! We just had DS christened a couple weeks ago and he was 3.5 months. We waited to he could be christened with his cousin. We also had to wait until it was a good time for my IL's to come-they live 10 hours away.

  • DS was baptised at 6 weeks because my husband's sperm donor, uh, I mean father, was coming to town to see the baby and wanted to be there.

  • Our church allows babies to be christened at any age.  DS was christened when he was only 4 1/2 weeks old.  We would have gotten him christened earlier, but grandma and grandpa were on vacation and we wanted to wait until they came back.

  • That doesn't seem too soon, I would do it then especially since your MIL is so far away.  We just did ours but our family is closer.

  • DS won't get baptised until he's 5 months.  That's only because it's the only date the church has that works for us and our family.  I wish we could've done it sooner but the 1st date they had he would've been not even 2 weeks old, and the other one was the Saturday before Easter and it was in the evening.  Not very convienant for traveling family.
