When did DC start sleeping in their room?

When did your DC start sleeping in their room? We have Olivia's crib in our room right now with her sleeping there. She only gets up once a night usually around 4 or 5(if at all), and we have a monitor with a motion detector on it so an alarm goes off if it doesn't sense movement (i.e. breathing) for 20 seconds. ?I mentioned moving her crib into her room and DH about had a stroke. ?Part of this is my OCD disorder I think b/c I feel like her room is a mess just b/c her crib isn't in there and it drives me nuts, lol. ?I'm the one who gets up with her at night and I don't mind going to her room which isn't too far away. ?We live in a condo and you walk out of our room into our living/dining room down a three foot hallway to her room. ?What do you think?

?

Sorry for rambling its 1 a.m. and I'm a little tired and wordy lol. ?

Re: When did DC start sleeping in their room?

  • Somewhere between 2 & 2.5 months, we put Brandon in his room.  At 4 months, when he started waking up several times during the night, we put him back with us for about 2-3 days, and he went back to STTN.

I'd say put her in there next week at her 2 month birthday.  She'll be fine!  It's SOO much nicer to have them in their own room because then when we go to bed we don't have to tiptoe.  When I get up in the morning, I don't have to tiptoe as much.  Also, this was about the time more and more noises started to bother Brandon, and would wake him up.  So the quite nursery is an ideal sleeping locale.

  • We started at 6 weeks with naps during the day.  By 8 weeks he was in his room for night, too.  Good luck!  My DH was the one who was afraid to move DS into his room, too.
  • I think you are fine putting her in there now.  We waited longer than I would have liked to put DS in his room and the younger they are, the easier the transition for them.  We kept thinking he'd start STTN and then we'd do it.  Little did we know he it wasn't going to happen anytime soon.  He STILL doesn't STTN.  Good luck!

    We did the same thing.

  • Our girls were in their room from the beginning.  However, whoever was on the feeding shift (we did shift work, so that we'd both get a few hours of sleep in a row), slept on a futon in the girls' room.  It was less a matter of worrying about the girls and more a matter of convenience/so that the sleeping parent wasn't woken up.

Once the girls stopped waking every 3 hours for feedings and we stopped doing shifts at night (2 months), we slept in our room and the girls slept in theirs.

  • Allison stayed in our room until 4 1/2 months.  I don't think there is a right answer, though; it's whatever you're comfortable doing.
  • Niko was one month old when we moved him.  He slept in a bassinet until then next to our bed.  Seems like SO long ago!

  • I think Rylee was just about 10 weeks old or so.... but then I went and slept in her room with her on the twin bed for a few weeks

Parker... I think he will be in our room until he is 6 months or more with his current sleep schedule

  • I know transitioning our DD to her crib was probably done a lot earlier than most others, but we put DD to sleep in her crib at 5 wks. old. The reason why is because she never slept well in the PNP at night. She napped well in it during the day, but hated it at night. She never had any difficulties with the transition, and still sleeps well at night in her crib. She started STTN at 4.5 months. GL!

  • We put her in her room about 3 months (when she was getting too big for the bassinet in our room) but I wish I would have started it earlier b/c she did great b/c at this point she was STTN.  We have a video monitor which helped my anxiety.  Do whatever you are comfortable with!
  • She was in a bassinet in our room for 1 week then in to her room in her crib. She makes way too much noise in her sleep and I was constantly waking up. We had no problems with the transition. With #2 we will probably just start them in their room from day 1.

  • We moved her at 2 months.  We all sleep much better now.
  • I think Justin was 7 weeks old when we moved him into his room.  Up until then he was in the bassinet and he outgrew it.  It was much harder on me than on him or DH, but it did make everyone sleep better.
