I have lately heard a lot of people say, "does he need a new pamper?" "did he poop in his pamper?", etc. I have always just said diaper. Is this a new thing?
Totally random, but I have never really heard it until recently, so I was curious. Regardless of brand we have always called them diapers, but now, regardless of brand, I hear so many people calling them pampers.
Just curious.
Re: Do you call them "diapers" or "pampers"?
Diapers.
However, I refer to all soft drinks as "Coke" even if it's a Pepsi. I think it's a California thing - where I'm from.
diaper. pamper = a brand to me.
same people probably call a tissue a "kleenex", too.
the only time i am guilty of using a brand name for all of the same item is a Q-tip.
I call them diapers. But its kind of like tissues. I always call them Kleenex, regardless of the brand they are.
diaper.
I hate when people use brand names instead of product names!

Oh that's true...
Randomly it has been 2 different nurses at the pedi and also a couple of girls at the gym daycare. They are all probably younger than 30. Random.
I do use kleenex for tissue and Q-tip, so I guess I am guilty too!
I always say diaper, but I have heard older people call them pampers. We talked about this a lot in my marketing classes and there's an interesting article about it. https://interact.uoregon.edu/medialit/JCP/articles_mlr/walsh/Trademark_Battles.html
I say diaper but am guilty of saying Kleenex and Q-tip. Luckily DH says tissue and dd takes after him and asks for a "tissue."
