Has your DC been to the dentist?

My cousin is a dentist and said that children are supposed to see the dentist for their first checkup at 1 year, although Ava is 18 months (and has a mouth full of teeth) and I still haven't taken her, so I need to soon.  Has your DC been?

Re: Has your DC been to the dentist?

  • We haven't been, yet.  But I need to make an appointment soon.  Our pedi said they should have their first appointment at 2 years.  But I've heard other people who say wait until 3.

  • Yes, she has been, but I never scheduled an apt for her. She just gets her mouth checked out while both my DH and I are at the dentist. We goes as a family twice a year.

I will start scheduling her apts when she needs to start having x-rays and cleanings done.

  • We were told to wait until 2.5-3.  I'm going to take Niko this summer when I'm off of school.

  • My 4 year old just had his first real appt. after his birthday.  He's had his mouth/teeth checked every six months or so when I go to the dentist but they didn't want to see him for a real cleaning or xrays until he turned 4 (unless we suspected a problem - then they would have seen him sooner obviously).

  • We actually have an appointment tomorrow morning.  My son is 2 and a half.  He starting going to the dentist at 18 months and will continue to be seen every 6 months.  My husband works in the dental field so we are particular about teeth.  It is not easy but we go to a pediatric dentist and they are used to working with children this age.  Our office has a "quiet room" where the door shuts in case of a screamer, like my kid ;)  And I usually hold him on my lap rather than put him in the chair.
