Your hospital had a LC come to you? Ok i feel jipped. we just had my nurse and babys nurse pop in now and then, and usually not regarding breastfeeding.
as i said in that post, if we had an issue, they'd spend 2 seconds helping then leave. DOn't get me wrong, they were all super nice to us (except a overnight nursery nurse, whole differen't story).
So...also due to jaundice, they said we had to supplement otherwise it'll get worse. I wanted what was best for my DD so Formula it was.
ugh..now i know better for next time. (at least pump!)
Re: s/o hospital stay, breastfeeding...
I saw 2 different LCs. Everyone was very supportive of BFing. My daughter's bassinet had a sign in it that said "I'm a breastfed girl!" so that no one mistakenly gave her formula in the nursery. I had her sleep in thye nursery and they brought her to me every 2 hours to nurse. They never pushed me to supplement even though she had mild jaundice.
However, they did still give me the Enfamil goody bag
LC came by to see me once. Nurses were more helpful to me.
I'm so jealous. I had nurses tell me over and over that because Kate was so small that I really needed to supplement. If I had been a 1st time mom or wasn't prepared I would have caved.
Who am I kidding. Even with knowing that it was wrong I still questioned it. Luckily I came to my senses.
I requested the LC and she came-- but really, she wasn't terribly helpful. We also had the sign in the bassinet about Breastfed Babies. And despite her fairly serious jaundice, I chose not to formula feed her and she did just fine. I just kept her on the breast, pretty much, all day and she faired wonderfully!
Ditto Iris...they have them on call 24/7 and the nurses ask you when you check in if you'll be wanting an LC in the delivery room after birth so they can have them there.
We also had the signs, and I did use the nursery both times the 2nd night to get sleep before coming home, and they still bring them to you every 2-3 hours to nurse.
I did get the formula bag the first time, but mainly because I just wanted the bag. I didn't get one this time nor was I even offered one. Quite frankly I need one as I used it as my pump bag with my DD and loved it.

Ugh, me too! They were terrible - Several nurses were discouraging about BF-ing because DS had lost so much weight, and the pediatrician on call sent us home with formula and an SNS. We did not use it and DS hit his birth weight in < 10 days. I do not recommend!!
