3rd Trimester

How you look during/after labor.

Lots of people have talked about this before and gotten flamed.

Many people say, "You won't care how you look" when you go into labor.

On a certain level that's true. But I look at the pics and go, I really should have done my roots (I'd stopped dying for multiple reasons) and at least washed my hair before I'd gone into my appt that day. I was in total slob mode. So, while it's not a big deal, I see so many pics on here where the ladies look great. I'm not talking about a full makeover or putting on all your makeup, but just the basics.

Obviously, the most important thing is that you have your baby, but I wish I looked better in the pics. :)

Re: How you look during/after labor.

  • I put lipgloss on and some mascara in between contractions with dd, I say flame away. I'm not going to look like hell.

  • Yeah, I would like to try and pretty myself up a bit before the real action starts but I figure that I'll probably sweat, smear, or cry any makeup off during L&D.  I have a friend who says she wouldn't leave her house without eyeliner when she went into labor.  Well, she ended up looking like a raccoon in her pictures!
  • That is funny...I'm not much into make-up or worry too much about my hair but I at least want to have my hair clean on that day and have my legs shaved.
  • Oh yeah - I remember when I went into labor with DD, I took a shower, got my hair done, makeup, and went to the hospital. . .  I look at my pics and I looked like crap!  Hair was plastered back because I had thrown up while pushing, so my mom grabbed a wet washcloth and was rubbing my forehead.  My mascara and eyeliner had smeared down to my cheeks, and I was down to Chapstick by the time labor came on.  What a crack up.  I'm definitely putting the Chapstick in my pocket this time, but that's it!  LOL

  • I told DH, I'm not going to risk not having my hair look good over the next couple weeks.  Once I am stitched up, I want my hair to look good for when I can have the boys in my arms for pictures.  Obviously, my hair will be under a little cap thing for surgery.  But I'm wearing eyeliner.
  • I fully intend to shower/wash my hair before leaving for the hospital.  I also have makeup packed in my hospital bag.  Not a lot of makeup, but I want to look and feel like a human being when people start coming to visit.  Maybe I will wind up not caring, but I like to be prepared.

  • Here I am shortly after giving birth:

I am actually OK with how I look, no make-up and crazy hair, because I didn't have an epidural and worked really hard during my labor and I kind of like that that shows.  I was proud of myself for going pain-med free.

  • The day before my induction, I'm getting a massage, a mani, pedi and my hair cut.  The day of I'm going to wake up, take a shower and shave.  I'm not anticipating looking like a model when I'm done pushing him out, but I'll just feel a lot better going into it knowing that I gave myself a fighting chance to not look like death warmed over.
  • When I went in for my induction/turned c-section I had just had a pedi two days before b/c my friend had joked that I might go into labor and would want pretty feet.   Ha!!!  She must have known-a nurse even commented on how nice they looked!!  I had makeup on, but mineral make up and I'm glad since I didnt wash my face for a couple of days.  (I wasn't allowed to get out of bed due to severe hemorraging.)  I plan on doing the same thing this time around-except the hemorraging that is!!  Plus I know we'll have visitors later that day since my c-section is sched. for 8:30 am.
