Irish Girl Name cont: Molly vs Erin

I really like the name Molly too.  The nice thing is this was DH's grandmother's name.  I'm just not sure about the name for an adult.  Does anyone else think Molly would not like her name when she gets older?

DH thinks we should go with Erin for this reason.

  • I like the Irish name Shannon. Big Smile

  • Think Molly Ringwald!
  • I vote Molly. Erin is just kind of meh to me.

  • For whatever reason, I think Molly is one of the few names ending in an "ee" sound that works for adult professional women.  I'm not sure why I think that, but it does, IMO.

I really like Molly a lot.  Erin is cute, but I like Molly better.

  • I like Molly a lot better than Erin, and my first name is Erin. It's just such a typical name... though not bad, there really arent any negative connotations to it. I say, go with Molly.

  • I prefer Molly. ?I have a cousin named Mollie, so that might be why. ?I also don't like the whole Erin/Aaron confusion.

    Yes...this.

  • I like Molly, but that may just be because I grew up with a lot of Erins, and therefore the name seems kind of tired to me. (Sorry, PP Erin!) It's quite true, though, that today Erin is a more unique name choice.

    LOVE Mollie. Cute.?

  • Thank you for all the posts!  It is really making me feel good about the name choice Molly.  It will go perfect with her big sis Caitlin.
  • How about naming her Molly Erin?
  • I like Molly, and i think its a Adult name as well.
  • My middle name was Erin and I never liked it. Molly is sweet.

  • Molly makes me think of redheads. Molly Ringwald and the mother in Harry Potter (Ron's mom, not Harry's). It's not bad, but I get a definite visual when I hear it.?

I love Erin, it's my middle name. I do think it sounds more Irish ... as it means Ireland. If that's what you're going for.?

  • I am biased since my name is Erin. I like my name just fine and have never had any issues. My boss's name is Molly and I've never thought of her name as being too young or anything. Can't go wrong with either, IMO.

  • My SIL is named Molly.  She doesn't have a problem with it - I've actually never thought anything of it.  I think it's a nice name.
  • I love the name Molly! I also think it will be fine when she is older - I don't think of it as just a baby/child name!
  • I LOVE being a Molly!

I wasn't totally excited about it when I was little... I definitely wanted to be named Sarah or Jennifer or something like that in elementary school because I had a lot of friends with those names.

As I've gotten older, I've liked my name more and more.  I feel like Molly is a very friendly, approachable, not overused, girl-next-door kind of name.  Yet, as a professional, I have never had a problem w/ people not taking me seriously.

I think it's a fantastic name and one that I am very very happy to have!

  • I love both. I have good friends with both of those names. Molly works fine on an adult in my opinion. You can't go wrong!

  • I think it would be okay as an adult name, but I also like Erin better.

  • I'm an Erin.  I like my name, but it gets misspelled all the time (Aaron) and I've learned to just spell my name as soon as I give it to someone over the phone.

Molly sounds like a pet name to me.

  • I love the name Erin.  I think Molly is cute for a "little" girl, but not as an adult.

  • I like Erin....I really dislike Molly for some reason.
  • I'm biased because my name is Erin....I like the way "Caitlin" and "Erin" sound together- go together but are not matchy-matchy. Molly is cute, too, though.

Oh, and ppl who cannot figure out the Aaron/Erin thing are dumb. Sorry.
