Parenting after a Loss

Speaking of colds and nose thingies...

Ben's been congested for a couple weeks and just started with a runny nose yesterday.  I've tried using the "booger getter" as my mom calls it and I can never get anything out.  Am I missing something?  Does anyone have any tips?  We use the nasal spray and then wait a couple minutes.

  • I should sell this thing for a living.  It has literally saved me on hundreds of occasions.  According to the urgent care pedi, it prevents ear infections due to the design.  It also collects the snot which helped us get a diagnosis pronto when Yianni had bronchiolitis.  I bought another one just in case something happened to the first one.  It's worth every penny.  It plays music so your LO will like it.  Yianni laughs now when I suction his nose.  Plus, those bulb aspirators stretch their little nostrils and I don't think they work effectively.

It's also great for refluxing babies who vomit out of their noses.

Don't order from BP medical supplies--our second one took almost one month to get here.  Graco also makes the same thing.

  • Oh, and if you read the reviews, I don't know what is up with those people!  Seriously, you just take the top off and you can see all the snot it sucked.  It's insane how much snot is there that doesn't enter the cup.  The suction is great.

FYI I feel I'm a pro at the bulb syringe because I used it every two hours to clear Yianni's mouth for nine weeks to help with choking (severe GERD).

  • I had the same issue and posted a few times about it. The aspirator is "useless" according to DD's pedi....and I have to agree. The best thing is to put the baby in the bathroom while you run a shower to build up steam. Let him/her sit there for about 5 minutes. Then, put him/her on his/her belly for tummy time to let the boogers "slide" to the front of the nose where you can wipe them off. It's frustrating not being able to do more than this!
