Desperate for Eczema help! Anybody use mustela or anything else that works?

I am desperate for help with my DD's eczema, it's getting worse! We use aquaphor ALL day and night to no avail, she's allergic to Aveno, I have changed her sheets, clothes, blankets, everything to all cotton and the poor darling is still miserable and red! I have been reading some reveiws of the Mustela products that are formulated for eczema and they seem good, any insight or any other product recommendations? TIA

  • Jasper's eczema was not severe, but I used Weleda Baby Calendula lotion on it and it always really helped.

  • Your poor baby!! We use Aveeno baby lotion and Aquaphor, but obviously that will do you no good! DS gets it on his cheeks and the only thing that helps is 2.5% hydrocortisone cream. His pedi gave us a RX for it. It takes a few days of using it (b/c I use a very thin layer) but it's the only thing that works.

    GL!

  • We also had to get an rx from DD's pedi. Another thing that works really well is Cerave. They sell it at Riteaid and CVS. You may have to call around to a few different stores because not all of them carry it. I buy the one with the blue label. It works really well, and I use it a few times a day to keep her skin hydrated. I don't use the RX unless it gets really bad. Good luck.

  • Ughhh I'm with you!!  I'm at my wits end.  I feel so bad for our little guy.  We've gone through jars and jars of aquaphor but it's not helping.  We're having him retested for his allergies in a couple weeks.

I'm guessing your DD is allergic to the soy in Aveeno??  (Which is in TONS of lotions.)

  • We had to get prescription steriods and once we got the flare up fixed this is our maintenance routine:

We do a bath every day but only with water.  Immediately afterwards we pat dry and seal in the moisture with Vanicream (you can get it from your pharmacist without a prescription).  Lots of babies with eczema are also allergic to lanolin (a wool derivative) and it is found in a majority of creams and lotions.  Here is the website for vanicream if you want more info https://www.psico.com/.  So far so good... it has been a month of beautiful soft skin and before that his eczema was pretty extreme!  Good luck!

  • Does she have spots that are infected? If so, I would buy some hydrocortisone cream to put on them. We have a prescription for a steroid cream and it is the only thing that works for really infected spots. The hydrocortisone will help though.?

For everyday, we use Mustela Stelatopia cream. It works well. Although, I will say that we were using Eucerin lotion and it worked just as well.

Good luck and I just wanted to say that I know what you are going through. It sucks. ?

  • Call your pedi and get an RX.  We ended up doing this to clear it up and then we started using California Baby Super Sensitive bath and lotion products exclusively.  We also run a cool mist humidifier in his room at night.  After the initial flare up, we have been able to keep the eczema away with the products and humidifier I mentioned.  GL!
  • Thanks ladies, you are all SO helpful! I am going to shop this weekend and pick up some of these products to try!
  • We use Baby Avalon Organic. You can find it at BRU. Nothing else worked on her. Her eczema is pretty much gone now.

We also switched her detergent. We were using Seventh Generation Baby but switched to Crunchy Clean (made by a Nestie on the Eco-Friendly Board), which also might have helped. https://www.crunchyclean.com

My DD reacted to the pansy extract in California Baby Super Sensitive bath. The reaction was so terrible that my pediatrician thought she had been burned. It was really weird, and I felt so bad for her!

  • DS#1 had severe eczema around the same age, it was caused from food allergies. They only otc lotion/body wash that worked was Cerve.

He has outgrown it, but everyonce in a while has an outbreak, but we now use California baby sensitive.
