stupid question

please forgive me.  DH told me to pack my bag ahead of time incase I go into labor early....he's getting a little obsessive=)  What are things for me that are a must to bring?......and where do I find nursing pads?

Re: stupid question

  • this is from an older post:

Thin short robe (I got mine from Target for like $15 and loved having it on when people were visiting) A couple of good/supportive nursing tanks Laptop and charger (Our hospital has free WIFI) Camera, charger and cord to download pics Cell phones and chargers Entertainment ? handheld games and crossword puzzles Coming home outfit for me: black yoga pants, nursing tank, sweater and comfy flats Coming home outfit for DD Change of clothes for DH Toilitries ? shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc. Lanolin breast cream PNV (If you?re BFing you?ll need to keep taking them) Boppy Chapstick Things I brought but didn?t need: Breast pads (I didn?t start leaking until my milk came in ? they are must haves now) Regular pads (I just used the hospital?s diaper sized ones until I got home and took some of those home with me for the first couple of days) Extra underwear (Use the mesh panties and ask for some to take home for the first few days) Extra socks (Use the hospital?s socks ? I went through a couple of pairs b/c they get gross fast) Hair dryer Sugar free hard candy (My hospital had unlimited popsicles and those were so much better than candy and ice chips) Things I wish I brought: Lotion (I washed my hands a gajillion times and they got so disgustingly dry) Snacks (I was starving in the middle of the night when everything was closed) Cash (for vending machines) A couple more fun clothes for DD (We took so many pics of her and it would have been fun to have a little variety other than the white hospital t-shirt) An extra bag (The hospital gave us so much stuff to take home ? extra mesh panties, pads, diapers, wipes, baby t-shirts, etc.)

  • The only things I ended up using were clothes for going home, stuff for the shower and baby clothing. That's all. I packed makeup and hair dryer and crap but it sat in my bag

One thing I wanted and didn't have? Magazines. Reading material. Everyone told me I wouldn't have time or concentration for reading but I really wanted it

  • I have a list at home on what to pack. Unfortunately, I'm at work. I did find one online that seems to cover a majority of what you will need.

You should start packing 5-6 weeks prior to your due date. You will need the following:

    • Any paperwork: Pre-Admission forms, Health insurance materials, waivers, requests, etc.
    • Night gown/Pajamas (If breastfeeding, try getting nursing pajamas)
    • Slippers, Socks, bed socks (Hospital floors are notoriously chilly)
    • Fresh underwear
    • One or two pairs nursing bras if you will be breastfeeding
    • Box of Sanitary pads, Overnight or Extra-strength (not tampons)
    • Breast pads
    • Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Travel Container.
    • Soap
    • Deodorant
    • Body lotion (Make sure it's not heavily scented--baby's little nose is sensitive!)
    • Shampoo and conditioner - trial size
    • Hairbrush
    • Scrunchies, hairclip, ponytail holder ? to keep hair out of your eyes while in labour!
    • Flip flops ? to wear in the shower
    • Lip balm (Your lips will get surprisingly dry)
    • Wet-wipes
    • Coming home Clothes and Shoes (See "tips" below).
    • Make-up (You will be in many photographs, so might as well look the best you can.)
    • Your own pillow from home.
    • An overnight bag for your birth partner.
    • Camera (be sure batteries are fully charged)
    • Phone number list and email list.
    • Mobile phones and chargers
Add things for your new baby:

    • Car seat (Required at some hospitals and birth centers)
    • Diaper (nappie) bag
    • Baby blanket
    • Clothing
    • Hats
    • Socks
    • Warm clothes for going home (if the climate is cool or cold).

You can find regular or disposable nursing pads pretty much anywhere. Baby's R Us, or any Maternity store should sell them.

  • breast pads, you can find in the bottles section of the store
  • oh thank you...this help a lot.
