Hi ladies, just checking in real quickly to post my birth story. It all started Saturday February 7th around noon. I was at my uncle's auto shop getting my car fixed before my inducing on Monday. Well little did I expect that my water would break while getting Gaby ready to go home. It wasn't a gush of water but it was a sudden wetness that I didn't expect. I text my dh to tell him we were on the way to pick him up and head to the hospital. (I had packed our bags 2 weeks before and were in my trunk)
We arrived at Memorial Miramar in about 15 minutes to the ER thinking my water had broken. They put me into a room and started to monitor my contractions which were now every 4-5 minutes and I was 2cm dialted. They sent us to walk for an hour and when we got back from walking my contractions had stopped. They ran a test to see if if my water had really broken- it wasn't, it was just mucus. The nurse called the Dr to see what he wanted to do next. About 2 hours later they finally started on Pitocin and the show was getting on the road. By this time it was around 7ish or 8pm. The contractions started to get stronger and stronger, still manageable but strong. The nurse checked me and I was now 5cm and she asked if I wanted an Epidural which I was still able to manage the contractions. I told her that I will wait a little more to get the epidural.
Around 11pm I couldn't take the pain anymore and needed the EPIDURAL ASAP! My mom was getting on my nurves and I was trying very very hard to block everyone out of my mind and thank God to the nurse telling me to rock back and forth in between the contractions that helped in the hour I needed to wait for the Epidural to arrive.
At around midnight (I think it was) the Epidural Godess came into the room and started her magic. She had to poke my back 3 times to get it right. The first time she put it too much to the right and I got a weird feeling in my body and ears. The second time she got right on my spinal cord and had to take it out again. The third and final time she got it just right!
It took a couple of minutes for the drug to kick in and boy when it did I was in heaven! For some reason, I don't remember why I had to be placed on an oxygen mask and I started to freak out a little since I wasn't sure what was going on with the baby or me, but I tried to stay focus and relax.
At 3am the nurse checked me once again and I was 8cm dialted. She called the Dr thinking by the time he got there I would be completely dialted. YEAH RIGHT! Literally 5 minutes later the Dr arrived extreamly cheerful and gitty! (at 3am!) The room was transformed before my eyes, I was still numb from the epidural and wasn't feeling the contractions but I was feeling a tiny pressure. This whole time I was talking with the nurse, my aunt, the Dr, everyone making jokes, you would never know or think I was about to push a baby out! The Dr had me push once to see where the baby was and he was WAY up the canal. He started listening to the babies heartbeat and it was dropping everytime I had a contraction b/c the cord was wrapped around his neck. This scared the be-jesus out of me. The only thing I could do at this point is hope everything would turn out fine. The Dr didn't seemed worried which calmed me down too.
I started pushing and after 2 major pushes Alejandro Gabriel was born at 3:14am weighing at 7 lbs 8 oz.
We are all completely in love and we are in total baby heaven! The labor wasn't at all what we expected it was fast and super easy. The only thing that sucked was the 3 tries of the epidural.
I was a little scared thinking how I would be having two kids and loving both equal. Gaby is the best big sister and a great help with Alejandro she says "Mami, Alejandro is sooo CUTE!". My husband is such a great big help as well and we are all beyond trilled and complete with our new addition.
Thanks for letting me share!
