I'm torn, I want to switch Drs

in 1st Trimester

I started going to this new practice two months before I got PG. Spoke to the OB and we clicked.

Fast foward five months...

I haven't seen her yet b/c she's always booked, I have seen the doctor who owns the practice and as much as I like her the appointment was rushed after I waited 45 mins to be seen. ?The staff is simply uncaring, you're just some PG woman they have to deal with for a few mins. in the office and less than that on the phone.

I have gone for urine tests to check for an UTI, bloodwork to see if I needed a RHogam shot (I spotted and I'm o-) and I never get a call back for results. ?This time I waited a whole week to call them to check for bloodwork to see if they would call and suprise, surprise they didn't. ?When I called she said well everything looks good and the dr. will discuss your results at your next visit...hmmm my next visit is in March, I needed to know if I needed the RHogam shot now.

Is it me? am I being unreasonable? I keep telling MH that I was so spoiled at my old practice. ?They did U/S in house and told you how it went right away so I didn't have to wait two sometimes three weeks to find out that the u/s was ok. ?They called you back within two days of your tests to tell you the results and I never had to call. ?I wish I could go back to them but I can't do the hr. commute to see them and then the 1.5 to the hospital once I get closer to delivery.

    I don't think you're being unreasonable; you need to be comfortable and happy with your doctor and their staff.  I saw one doctor at the beginning of my 9 weeks, wasn't impressed with her or the office staff, and by the end of that week I found a great new doctor.  I notice on your ticker that you're 12 weeks; if you're going to make a switch, do it ASAP.  Can you ask friends/coworkers who've given birth recently for the names of their doctors?

    if you're not happy, then by all means switch practices. but also be patient.

     

    however, it is not uncommon to review ultrasound and lab results with you at your next appointment.  my first ob visit was 4 minutes long.  my second? about 90 seconds.  there isn't a whole lot for them to do, its not that they are pressured.  i waited to have my us reviewed by my md at my visit - and while i woud have liked to hear earlier - its a 1st trimester ultrasound and the basic point of it is to have a heartbeat or not - and if they didn't have one, you would know.

    in terms of rhogram, it is not a big deal at 12 weeks to know if you need it or not unless you are miscarrying or have some abdominal trauma. they give it at 28 weeks if you need it (i am a healthcare provider and delivered babies - not just pulling this from WTEWYE).

    I just switched practices. ?It was one of the best things I've ever done.

    Don't feel guilty. ?If you got lousy service and sub-par food at a restaurant, would you go back??

    .... and please don't think i was trying to be snarky, i also just changed providers at this last visit.  not because i dont love my obgyn- he's great, but i'm not a fan of the hospital that he delivers at.
