Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Reflux question

DS does the screaming, arching back, pulling off the nipple while eating thing - but only during one feeding per day - and not every single day, but most... always the same feeding (the 8-10 pm one).  All the rest of the day he's fine, and has no eating issues (aside from eating a TON).  Is this possibly reflux?

I'm going to mention it to his pedi tomorrow, but curious what you all have to say.

Re: Reflux question

  • Yes, that's exactly what happened :(

It was always the evening feeding for us as well, so I thought it was colic at first. But it just got worse and he started the choking episodes and we knew exactly what it was.

Damn.  Crossing fingers that this clears up on it's own.

But... did your LO respond to medication? Are things better now?

Yes, yes! He is doing great. It took him awhile to respond (3 weeks) but he's totally fine now. The only thing we can still see from the reflux is the fact he spits up a lot. No worries, there's lots of reflux moms on this board.

I'm honestly terrified of reflux.  A friend's daughter had it, and they had a miserable time with her for over a year and a half - she wouldn't/couldn't sleep laying down, she screamed 24/7, and she was generally cranky and unhappy all the time.  I don't want me or my LO to have to go through that! :(

Oh, I'm sorry for them. That is terrible. DS sleeps 12 hours a night, takes healthy naps and is an extremely happy baby.

Yeah, and maybe I'm wrong, but I think your friends case is a very extreme case. That is terribly sad, though. Poor baby.
