I needs some escapist reading rec's. I am on a chicklit kick and would like recommendations on your faves...chicklit or whatever.
Recently read and liked: Confessions of a Shopaholic
Recently read and hated: Bookends by Jane Green (usually like her stuff, this had NO sexual tension and the protagonist wasn't especially likable, and of course she like pg twists in her books which I'm not too keen on)
Really, really love and am waiting anxiously for the next book: Sookie Stackhouse books
Books I have also liked:
Emily Griffin's books: Something Borrowed, Something Blue, Baby Proof
Please? Thank you.
Re: Book Recommendations please
Have......you read Twilight?
Um how about the Jennifer Weiner books...Good in Bed...In Her Shoes...don't read Little Earthquakes if you're avoiding babies (I'm glad I read it before going through IF).
I also really enjoyed Angels and Demons. Its not chick lit but it definitely gets you wrapped up in a mystery. It's not my normal genre of choice, I'm def more a chick lit girl, but I really really loved this book.
Dx with endo & blocked left tube - TTC #1 for 29 cycles before miracle BFP, #2 - Surprise!!
My TTC/PG blog / Panda Phenomenon Explained
i love jodi picoult - my faves were salem falls, my sister's keeper, nineteen minutes, the tenth circle, and keeping faith.
for quick reading, i'm totally into amish fiction - stuff by beverly lewis & wanda brunstetter.
#1. Water for Elephants - sooo good.
Chick lit: Jennifer Wiener (weiner) books are great for that.
Total escapism: Time Traveler's Wife. Such an amazingly good book.
Sad, but good: Sarah's Key
Twilight is definitely good for an escape and it's quick!
Jennifer Weiner is good. Marian Keyes has a bunch of books and I know a series. Sophie Kinsellas other books (not shopaholic series) are really good. Can you keep a secret and The undomestic Goddess.

I agree with the Jennifer Wiener books - I just finished Good in Bed not too long ago.

These are my favorite. #15 is coming out soon!!!!
I can't wait!! I read those books in one weekend. I never leave my "reading chair" from the time I get home with the book until i finish it.
I am jealous of you girls who get to read for fun so much. I only get to read now during holidays and on vacations b/c of my stupid class. That will be until August 2010. I miss pleasure reading so much!!!
And my recommendation, as always, Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon -- not chick lit, but great historical fiction -- also there are like 6 really long books in the series and another coming out this year or next I think -- so it can keep you occupied for a while if you get into them.
Oh, and I definitely read Twilight. Loved it, but prefer the Stackhouse books to their more adult content and reading level. I love the chemistry between Eric and Sookie.
ditto on these two
definitely the rest of the shopaholic's, manhattan, married, sister (the weakest) and baby... sophie kinsella makes me laugh out loud, she also wrote, can you keep a secret which was great.
I know you were disappointed with jane green, but jemima j and the other woman were really funny (ps the other woman, is her mil, hilarious)
enjoy your reads!
Hummm.
It's sort of a meld of chick-lit and suspense - the Pink Carnation series by Laura Willig (I think). The first one is sort of really bad, but the rest get progressively better and it helps if you've read the first one to understand the rest. There are 4 out right now (The Secret History of the Pink Carnation, The Mask of the Black Tulip, The Mystery? of the Emerald Ring, and The somethingorother Scarlet Rose).
If you like Jane Austen at all, then there is a wonderful series that is a different view of Pride and Prejudice - the Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman trilogy - An Assembly Such as This, Duty and Desire, These Three Remain.

I would also highly recommend The Perilous Gard. It's geared toward high school aged girls, but I loved this book the first time I read it and I go back to it every few years to re-read.
I also recommend the Princess Bride.
Maybe we can still be friends, even if we don't agree on grits.

The Jodi Picoult books are good. Have you read the Wally Lamb books?
Also, if you really, really want to escape, track down the following by Jude Deveraux:?A Knight in Shining Armor. Time travel trashy novel. So entertaining.
Definitely the Outlander series! Thanks for the rec Mrs.O! I'm on book 5. Did you hear about the movie in the works? It's scheduled for a 2011 release.

I used to like heavier stuff, I feel like this whole TTC-thing is reverting my tastes back to lighter more mindless stuff. I am also listening to more Britney than I'd like to admit.
Oh well.
