Speaking of baby names...

DH and I are somewhat set on a boy's name (Carter Michael K....)  but can't really agree on a girls name.

If we have a girl, I really want the middle name to be Rose - after my grandma - which DH is fine with.  Of course, that made him want the first name to be Elizabeth (after his grandma that I never met, she passed a few years ago).  I'm not CRAZY about it - but decided I might give in if we called her Ella.

Well...Sunday we went to SIL's house for our niece's bday party - and found out that they named their new puppy Ella.  DH doesn't think it's a big deal - and won't let a pet's name interfere with his name for a child - but I can't even fathom giving our child the same name as a close relative's DOG.

As much as I really want a little girl first....I'm starting to hope it's a boy so I don't have to deal with the name issue yet! LOL.  5.5 weeks til we find out!

Re: Speaking of baby names...

  • There are lots of other good nicknames for Elizabeth that aren't as popular as Ella (I know, I love it too, though...) I think close family's pet names are off the table, personally. That nixes Emma, Maggie and Lucy for us.

  • awe that stinks.  i think i cursed myself w/ naming my cat Bella b/c now i don't want to choose a girl name that sounds anything like Bella.  plus my other cat's name is Lilly, she was adopted so we didn't name her but i can't choose any name that sounds like that either.

Yes - there are other good nicknames..but if I give in with Elizabeth, it's because I like Ella! lol  Plus - his niece is Isabelle and they call her Izzy (another good nickname for Elizabeth).

  • I say use it anyway if you like it.  I really like the name Aurora with the nn Rory and have for years.  Close friends of our named their dog Rory after me telling them about it, and it doesn't bother me much.  They recently asked what our name possibilities are and we told them and they were shocked we would still name our baby Rory, since they now thought of it as a dog name.  Confused
  • I love the name Beth for a girl. My H vetoed it, but it could be a nice nickname for Elizabeth.  Oh, and I say if you really love Ella, then go for it!
  • I don't think that you shouldn't use a name just because someone named their dog that. Go with Ella. You both like it.

  • I would just use the name anyways. Ella is a cute nn. If we have a girl I will be naming her Lillian nn Lilly. I did have a cat thats name was Lilly too. I just love the name and want to use it.

  • A good friend of mine had a dog named Skylar because he DH said he would never let her name a child that and then when they ended up having a child together they named her Skylar anyway... I think you just have to look beyond the dog thing... It isn't like you want to name your child Fluffy,,,,
