Is back for the 3rd time in 2 weeks. I have been using Abreva like crazy, but gave up on it. I called the doctor and got an RX for the cream. I am hoping this helps. I have never had this much issue with my fever blisters before.
the stupid little tube of cream cost $40. ERRRRR.....

Re: Fever blister
It's because your immune system is down. If you are prone to them you can expect it to happen pretty frequently for the rest of your pregnancy. Between the down immune system and stress it's the perfect breeding ground for the nasy buggers.
I get them too and it sucks. Abreva is the only thing that helps when you have one and een that doesn't take it away quick enough. Not sure if you do this already but you could try a really moisturising lip balm as well for when you don't have one. I use plain old vaseline a lot. I found the less dry my lips are the better. If there is even a tiny bit of chap going on I a bound to get a FB. Especially now in the winter.

I started getting them when I was 6mo pg and got one every month for the rest of my pgcy. My ob put me on acyclovir (I think that's how you spell it) and it did the trick. It's an oral anti-viral, safe during pgcy, and took them all away!

I have had very dry lips...
I have the Acyclovir cream right now to help get rid of them.

Hi Babbay....as you know from my post earlier this week, I have a nasty fever blister too. Now it's a huge scab on my upper lip. I took the anti-viral drug Valtrex to fight this one. It's a category b drug for pregnancy...which is the same category as tylonol, so it's pretty safe. It has really helped to dry this one up.
Also, I've read that if you put ice on it as you feel one starting, it stops from growing. I guess that it needs to be pretty warm for one to grow, and ice cools it down so much that it stops the virus from taking over.
Another trick that I've learned about, and swear by, is to put a q-tip soaked in nail polish remover on the blister once it forms. I keep it on for about five minutes while standing with my head out a window. It burns a little, but it has healed it much faster than any other one I've ever had.
