is coming up at the end of March - the bff's.
i told a mutual friend that i'd like to help out in a non-direct way, if possible, so she's asked me to do the invitations. sure, no problem. but she then asks me if i can sit beside bff while she's opening gifts and write down who gave what.
um, no. i told her gently that if this cycle doesn't work, i'm not going to be able to sit through an afternoon of babyness.
i just realized i have an out.... two sessions scheduled that day in NOLA, so there's no way i'd be back in time to go. i feel like crap because i'm relieved that i don't have to go. i hate feeling this way. =(
Re: the shower i've been dreading
I know it sucks. I'm sorry. I cried as soon as I got out the door after my BFF's shower. Heck, I nearly lost it in BRU when I was shopping for her.
At least you have a good excuse for not going so you can avoid it all together.

Don't beat yourself up for it. I'm a big subscriber to the notion that if you're feeling something, go with it. If you need to be sad, let yourself be sad and don't feel guilty about it....but when you're done being sad, move on. You'll have good days and bad days and on the good days take advantage of the positive attitude. If you have a bad day, don't try to push off the bad feelings because if you try to suppress them and try to ignore them, they seem to come back ten fold.
So do what you can do to help with the shower and if you can't celebrate with your friend at her shower, you'll have other opportunities. :-)
