Horrible Diaper Rash Help Needed

My neice has a horrible, horrible diaper rash right now.  My mom got her two days ago and has been working on getting it better, but I wanted to see if you ladies have any other ideas.  This is what we are doing now:

-- I bought her Earth's Best diapers (sis had her on generics)

-- We have been doing Aveeno Oatmeal Soaks

-- I bought her some wipes with extra shea butter

-- Lubing her up with Boudreaux's

-- Keeping her as dry as possible

It was so bad last night, DH called me almost in tears to warn me about it before I got home and saw it.  He is ready to shoot my sister for letting it get like this.

Re: Horrible Diaper Rash Help Needed

  • the quickest way we get rid of diaper rashes is to just let maddy air out.  we let her run around the house diaper-less or if she's willing to sit still, we sit her on a towel.

also, i didn't like boudreaux so much.... dr. smith's is what we use.

  • I have a feeling Gabby will be nude a lot over the next week.  She is 5 months old, so we can lay some towels down and let her be free.

  • I like Mustela Vitamin Barrier cream better than Boudreaux's. It always clears Natalie up within a day. A tube of it isn't the cheapest around (maybe $9 at BRU), but so worth it.

  • My almost instant cure is to mix Ammens medicated powder with A&D ointment - coat the area really well.  Going diaperless for a while can really help too - my distraction for diaperless time is to give Aidan a plum and put him on a big sheet. I'm not sure how old your neice is but she might love it if she is old enough.
  • Luca's bottom looks awful right now.  We went to the pedi and he gave us a Rx...  He also told us to air it out as much as possible...

  • A+D is a miracle worker!!!

  • Could it be a yeast rash? ?You might need a rx cream.
  • My first son had this problem, a friend of mine had the remedy.  Take flour, ordinary flour.  Brown it in a skillet.  Dont put anything with it just the flour, until it turns brown.  Let it cool and use just like baby powder.  The rash will go away and stay away as long as you use it.  My other two kids never had diaper rash.

  • These two things have worked for us in the past:

    1) "Happy Hiney" Rx diaper cream (doc must prescribe then you have to get it through a pharmacy that will do compounding), layered with an OTC diaper cream on top and cornstarch on top of that.

    2) Hydrocortisone cream, the mildest kind sold OTC.  We used this one time out of desperation b/c a friend recommended it.  The rash cleared up overnight.

  • Also try instead of wipes, use soap and water to clean.  Cole gets diaper rash pretty bad, especially when teething and it helps.
  • boudreaux's never worked for us. A + D is a miracle ointment on addie. but make sure it's not yeast, if that doesn't clear it up. and lots of nudie time.

I was going to suggest a trip to the pedi.  It may be a bacterial or fungal infection, in which case, it won't go away on it's own.
