How did you find your Daycare?

Hi Ladies,

Just curious where you found your daycare provider ?  My daughter is almost 11 months and currently my mom is watching her,  but we are starting to have some issues.  I am new to this and I don't know where to look, ideally I would like to find a small in home daycare?  TIA !

Re: How did you find your Daycare?

  • We're fairly new to the area we live in and didn't know anyone to ask for recommendations so we went with Kindercare (after checking out a couple other centers).  We knew we did not want home-based daycare so I guess that made it a fairly easy decision for us to make.

  • friends and families children went there, and Word of mouth, that's how I felt comfortable enough to send DD there. Plus we were looking for part time and she started before a year, we were limited to where we could send her.

  • i found an in-home daycare through family (my niece used this daycare when she was little).  now that ds is older he will be starting regular daycare.  i searched daycares on the web in my area but ended up going with a daycare i found through word of mouth (a lady i work with that lives in the same area as me).
  • Initially, I went onto our state's website and found someone to contact in the family services department. She sent me a list of all the licensed centers (large ones and in-home). From there, I widdled them down according to location. My mom owned a wonderful daycare for years, so she also helped me go thru and get rid of ones she new had bad reputations (ask around your area... other moms will have opinions). Then we just set up tours. There are some SCARY places out there. When I walked into our current center, I just "knew" it was the place that my daughter was going to be. The other places didn't hold a candle. Then I got references from other parents there. It was a no-brainer for us. So, ask questions, take tours, and follow your gut. GL!

  • sorry to post again, but i wanted to mention that there are local boards on the nest/bump.  maybe you could post there about daycares in your area, gl!
  • We found our in home child care throught our City Child Research Center. It gave us all the child providers in our area. As far as which DC is best in our area we asked people and did some tours. I liked the in-home the best.
