Jeweller who sold us my e-ring recognized me...

on the street!

I was just walking along and he said "Hi, I don't remember your name but I did your e-ring didn't I? You went to NY?"

I was impressed. I said so. I said how I couldn't get anyone to clean it in NY they all said "well you didn't buy it here". He was pretty appalled, said he always cleaned jewellery from anyone, it takes 1 min and it creates tons of goodwill.

So I went back to the shop with him and now my e-ring sparkles once again.

I must remember to recommend him to my friend who just got engaged. I'd nearly forgotten him, but I remember now that he did our e-rings personally, created a new setting for it and found us the diamond.

Warm glow for the rest of the day now.?

  • I got me e-ring in Australia...I've had it cleaned here no problems. Strange that any respectable jewller would refuse your money or business....

  • Well a) this guy doesn't charge you - it just creates goodwill.

    b) yes I was prepared to pay for it to be done in NY, I asked if the did it without indicating anything else and they asked if I'd bought it from them and if not, no they wouldn't.

    c) yes I think they are nuts. They kept telling me to go to Zales (ie downmarket) and they would do it, but when we visited California and were hanging around a mall there I asked them too and they had the same response.?

    ?

  • Most places don't charge you for the first cleaning if you bought the ring there.

I asked if the did it without indicating anything else

Maybe the US jewllers you went to misunderstood you and thought you wanted it for free?  Seems strange to me.

  • That's odd--I get my ring cleaned frequently at any jewelry store I happen to be near and I have never once been charged.  As a matter of fact, you seem to have run into every poor service person in America.  I wonder why people always seem to treat you so badly?  Hmmm....
  • I also find it odd that no one would clean your ring.  I used to work for a major chain (not the one you mentioned) when I lived in NY and we always cleaned rings for free.  Every jeweler did it to keep people in the store for potential sales.
  • ditto flem and kylara.  never had a problem getting my ring cleaned for free at a jeweler it was not purchased from.
