2nd Trimester

Worried about baby moving

I started to feel my baby girl move around 17 weeks, but small movements. It has been occational, and now at 21 weeks I am feeling her move more, but not very strongly. When I try to hold me stomach to see if I can feel her, I feel my pulse, but not her moving. Its slowly getting more consistent, but I feel like I am behind on feeling movement. I know so many people who consistently feel kicking and movement (and their husbands and feel it also). When I mentioned it at my last OBGYN appointment last week, they said I would feel it more in the next two weeks. Am I the only one?

Re: Worried about baby moving

  • I didn't start feeling really strong movements consistently until the past week or two. I had felt some around 21 weeks and that is when DH first felt her from the outside - but not consistently at that point.

  • It's normal not to feel consistent movements at your point.  Heck, my sister is 20 weeks and hasn't felt anything yet.  Maybe you have an anterior placenta?  That's my sister's deal.
  • it sounds like you're feeling movement that is getting more consistent... I don't see the problem.

has your dr. mentioned anything about an anterior placenta? I have one and I can't feel him move around as much as other people seem to, nor is it as consistent.

     I'm sure everything is fine.

  • I haven't felt ANYTHING yet. :(  I know how you feel.

  • It will get better!  My baby had a lazy day yesturday and scared me!  I used the flashlight trick to and he woke up for that!  Today he's more active then ever!

  • The only thing my doctor has said is that my uterus is tilted back.
  • I started to feel consistent movement and kicks around 2 1/2 weeks ago.  I was getting very weak movements and then one day it all started and hasn't stopped.

  • I have not felt anything spectacular yet.  Once in a while I feel some flutters and movement, but nothing consistent and no real kicks yet.  Which is odd because on all three u/s I have had she is so darn active its crazy.  I have not been told of any problems with the placenta.

  • At my OB appt yesterday my doctor said you can't feel actual strong movements or kicks until 24 weeks. I have flutters occasionally now, but when he did the doppler he heard non-stop movement!
  • Thanks so much...I feel much better!
  • she's still too small for you to be feeling big movements.

In about 10 weeks or so you will be asking her to give you a break for a change!

  • Don't worry- I didn't feel her for the first time until 26wks.

  • I'm starting to feel a little movement, its just so hard to tell!!  I have been worried too, but today it seems I've felt more movement, so I am sure it's the baby.  It isn't consistent either, so I know how you are feeling!  Everytime we listen to the heart beat, they say the baby is moving a lot, but I don't have my big ultra sound until next week.  I wouldn't worry, I think that the movements now are so subtle, that its is hard to tell what is going on in there!!  Some women can just feel them more, I guess?  I am going to ask if I have an anterior placenta, next appointment.
  • I have felt little movement here and there DH has felt him about 4 times. Nothing consistent tho but the few times I do feel him its amazing. The other night i felt him elbow me and slide his arm on my tummy as he turned. =]
