Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Skinny babies do not equal unhealthy.

I hate when people think this . It irritates the hell out of me. My kid is almost eight months old and weighs 15 pounds, 10 ounces. People assume she's unhealthy because she's not chubby, and it pisses me off.

Pediatrician said she is perfectly healthy, but thanks for being a douche.

  • Amen from the mother of a 17lbs 5oz 10 mo old! Dr. said she is perfect!!!

  • "I hear you!" says the Mom of the 17lb 10mth old DS. My son is perfectly healthy, a great eater, he just has a fast metabolism. He's walking, and is developing perfectly, I can guarantee you he is not malnourished.

  • I agree.  My baby is just under 15 lbs at 8 months and is perfectly happy and healthy.  She is meeting all of her milestones and is a rambunctious little sprite.

BTW, what is this referring to?

  • I'm sorry if you're reacting to the responses to the post below. People make moronic judgments about other people's babies all the time- too thin, too fat, not talking enough, etc. You can never win.

  • Your 8 month old weighs the same as my DD did at 15 months. Imagine the looks I got :( DD is now 3.5 and doesnt even weigh 30 lbs yet.?

Both my kids are small. They're average for height, but small for weight. I'm not exactly obese myself and DH isnt either. We come from skinny stock! And both my kids are HEALTHY.?

  • i don't think she meant to be douchey.

my dd is on the tall thin side too. she's just reeeeally active.

  • I've got 2 skinny minis.  15lbs 15oz & 17lbs 5oz at 9 months.  These kids eat nonstop...it amazes me b/c I have no clue where they put it all!  Must be all those poopie diapers I'm changing constantly!

Don't worry about what others say.  =)

  • Amen, sistah!  My DS was at the bottom of the weight chart for a loooong time, but the past two months has gained 4 lbs!  He wasn't even 15 lbs at Christmas and now he's almost 19!  Fatty!  Anyway, yes, people are dumb.  All that matters is what your ped says.
  • DS is 22lbs but he's so long that he has no chub...People always think he's like 13mons tho....I pay no attenion to negative things people say about babies...Your daughter is adorable!

  • My sister gets this all the time too, her ds is super long and it makes him look thinner than my ds but he is solid and very healthy. People say the rudest things..it sucks.
  • Is this re: my post?   I hope not.  I think it has to be tough on both ends of the spectrum.  I've had people infer that my son is too chubby or will end up very "round" if we don't start limiting what he eats.  It's ridiculous. Like all things with babies, each baby is different.
  • I wasn't really reacting to the post below, but now that I read it, it makes me upset. My kid isn't malnourished. She's skinny, but she's healthy. She's meeting milestones and is as happy as can be.

I was actually posting this because of the comments I've been getting IRL. "She doesn't eat enough solids."
"You need to give that kid some formula to chunk her up!"
"You are STILL breastfeeding? No wonder she's so skinny!"

    Ugh.

I haven't read your post yet. Who knows Stick out tongue

    ETA: No, not your post.

  • My tall skinny-ish baby agrees.

  • Amen.

The girls in my mom's group always go on and on and on about how they looove how fat their babies are and oh, my, Parker is just a tiny peanut--I'm sure he'll catch up.  Ugh.  I am so tempted to enlighten them that BF babies are typically smaller and he is perfect!!!  Oh, he was 16.9 at his 9 month appt.

  • Yep. I've got a 16 pound, 2 ounce 8.5 month old. She's fabulous! I think the thing is ... babies are what they are, you know? If they're chunky, that's wonderful. If they're not, that's wonderful, too!

Exactly. Someone will tell you it's great that you're BFing at 8 months and someone else will tell you it's horrid. People need to mind their own business.?

  • My friend at work has a son 9 days younger than DD and he is long and about 25lbs. She always makes comments to me like give her to me for a weekend and I will have her fattened up. That always pisses me off!!!! She eats healthy well balanced meals I don't feed her junk (she feds her DS mozzarella sticks, french fries etc.).

  • I agree. DS has been in the 3rd percentile forever and people are always commenting on how he must not be eating enough. Anyone who knows him knows that he eats A LOT!
  • My 36lb 4.5 year old agrees. People comment a lot about how small he is, especially considering that DH and I are both heavier. Yes, he is a picky eater, no that doesn't actually have anything to do with it, he been small from infancy. Yes, he is healthy. No, we will not be giving him growth hormones, at least until he hits Jr High and still needs a carseat. Yes, I would like you to STFU. It gets old.

DH and I do keep joking to each other that Addie is going to weigh more than Justin soon. She's just average sized, but compared to him she's ginormous!

  • I am with you... my Ped had me so wrapped up into the percentiles and weight for the first 5 months until we went to a Pediatric GI Specialist who said DD was perfectly fine - and to stop going in for weekly weight checks!

DD is still small 16 pounds 10 ounces at 9 months - but more then anything she had a slow start.

I am a EBFer and will be until a year.

I also cannot stand the fatten your baby up - I am sorry my baby is not a fat slob!

Also my DD is extremely active - which I am surte is part of the reason she is thinner!?

  • My kid has slid down the percentile charts...none of his multitude of docs are concerned about his weight...He is on the EXACT (I mean pound for pound and inch for inch) curve as his sister.   She's 4 and in good health.

    People say stupid stuff!

  • I hear you! DD is a bean pole! Almost 4 years old and just weighed 30lbs. She is tall for her age but skinny. And the girl eats! People need to mind their own!
