Need opinion on daycare location

I currently work 45 min. away from home (almost 40 miles each way). ?I want to start looking into the prices of daycare. ?If you were me would you look for a daycare close to where you work or close to where you live? ?The pros of having the baby close to where I work is just in case my DC gets ill I can get to them quickly. ?The con with that is that I would have to travel with the baby that far distance every morning. ?What would you do?

  • I'd want close to where I live so MH could pick up/drop off too.

  • I would choose one closer to work.

  • I'd pick closer to home. You never know how long you will work somewhere.

  • Oh yeah, please state your reason for your choice.

  • I think either would work.  But if you want the 45 min of peace on the way to work in the AM, I would choose one closest to home.  Plus, if DH would want to pick up DC it would be convient.
  • I am going to go close to work for daycare.  That way my baby will not be there as long.  Also, if I need to pick her up due to illness, I can be there quicker.
  • Closer to home.  You never know: work could change a year or two down the road and you won't want to change daycare.
  • Now that I am thinking about it, and reading other posters, I guess I would pick one closer to home too.  DH could pick up and drop off, who knows how long i would be at work, etc...

I work at a daycare so maybe thats why I originally said work.  Now I am mad b/c DH is too far away to pick up and drop off if I had a meeting late or something.  Hmm

  • I chose one close to work, because:

    (a) I don't foresee us needed to use a daycare when I'm not at work. I'm not saying it won't happen, it just would be very rare. And our home is still only 15-20 minutes from the center.

    (b) The center is only about three blocks from my office, so I can visit/feed on my breaks. That was what really sold me.

In your case, the center would be further from your home and less convenient when you need it for non-work days (don't know how often that would be for you). But on the other hand, using one near home means 1.5 more hours per day that your child is in care. Not only is that time not spent with you, but it could press you into requring additonal time or accruing late fees (which can really add up).
