Prenatal Vitamins: When do you take them?

I have a confession...  I am *horrible* about taking them. I'm 10 weeks now and seriously, I think i've taken maybe a bout a weeks worth so far, sporadically.  :o

Either i gag at the thought of taking them or it's just plain laziness. :o( I take them at night before i go to bed so that might not be the best time for me to take them...  When do u take urs?

  • I take mine at night before bed too, but since I had such bad m/s, I've switched to taking 2 Flintstone Vitamins and a Folic Acid. The folic is the important thing for now (brain development and all). My OB even told me I didn't have to take a PNV at this point. I started feeling very guilty so I started withthe chewables. It's soooo much easier to take them!

  • I used to take my prenatal and folic acid in the morning, and then the calcium pill at night. I have one of those 7 day pill boxes, and I'd fill it up each week - or else I would forget to take them or not remember if I took it already.?

    I didn't have morning sickness though, so when I took them didn't really matter to me. I know that if you have morning sickness, its better to take it at night (or at least, not first thing in the morning). ?

  • I take mine with dinner, or if I forget, then I do it before bed.

    I really prefer to have food in my stomach when I take them!

    Oooh, that's an idea! which kinds do you take?

  • I do it right before bed. I get in bed and take my DHA and vitamins.

  • in the morning with the dha pill... its a lil routine now though i just chug em.

    When i had bad m/s I used to just do it really quickly.?

  • Since I have like 5-6 things that I have to take (and sometimes up to 9), I take them at night before bed.  I take so many that I bought one of those old lady pill things.   Makes it easy to see if I forgot something.
    Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

    Just the Flinststone Completes. 

  • I take them right before bed.  That's when I'm best at remembering.  I also got myself one of those pill boxes with the days of the week on it, so if I'm having trouble remembering, "Did I take one already?" I can just check the day to see if there is a pill there. 
  • I was also really bad at taking them, mainly due to m/s.  Once I was able to eat cereal again, I bought varieties that were fortified w/ vitamins and minerals as extra insurance.  Green leafy vegetables are also high in folic acid (foliage = leaves = folic) so that can also help with your intake.  The chewable version and the pill box both sound like good ideas.
  • I kept a little dish on the  counter by the sink.  In the morning I would put my vitamin in it, but not take it until dinner so I could take it on a full stomach.  The dish needed to be empty before I went to bed.  I put the vitamin somewhere I wouldn't forget it.
  • I take mine after I have lunch... I have to take it with a meal otherwise it makes me nauseaus.

  • I've been taking mine before I go to bed mostly or sometimes with dinner.
  • At night before bed.  I used to take my bc pills at that time so that's my med taking time.  Its become a habit for me.

    I gave in and bought one of those last night.  Even sadder, I had to get the jumbo one I take so many pills!

  • In the AM with a glass of OJ.
  • I take them in the morning.  I get up... set my vitamins on the counter... hope in the shower... hope out... and when I'm putting on my makeup, etc. I take them.

  • Since I throw up every morning (afternoon and night) I take them right before I go to bed.  I have the bottle on my nightstand, next to my alarm clock, so when I set the alarm for the next day, I see the bottle and know to take one.

    FYI, they have chewable PNV too.  I have a hard time taking big pills, so I asked my Dr about the flintstones and his opinion were they were ok, but he would prefer I take PNV so he gave me a prescription for chewable.  They're SO easy to take, and they have an orange taste to them.  I'm a big fan!!

     

  • When I had m/s I took them at night with a snack.  I ate so horribly that I was really good about taking them because I didn't eat a single fruit or vegetable for 14 weeks - actually I didn't eat much if any meat either...

    I take them at night.  I have gotten Dh to help me out to remember to take them.  Maybe asking your Dh for a reminder would be good for you too.
