I usually don't post, but I have been mulling over this for weeks and need some help... I am trying to plan a trip to Chicago in June with DH & DD who will be 10 mo old (I like to plan ahead!) and I'm having trouble finding a hotel that is w/in walking distance to Millenium Park & Navy Pier that is not a super fancy/posh business hotel. Does anyone have any suggestions? (my DD LOVES to swim, so I was hoping the hotel would have a pool too)
Thanks!!
Re: Where to stay downtown Chicago w/a 10 mo. old?
I was there on business last year and stayed at the Holiday Inn Mart-Plaza. It is walking distance from Navy Peir and has an indoor pool. The prices are reasonable and it is a clean hotel.

HTH!
I live in Downtown Chicago. ?Holiday Inn Mart Plaza would work, although I believe there is also a best western just east of Michigan Ave. ?I would not recommend the howard Johnson in River North, I used to work by there and it was pretty trashy.
Most of the business/posh hotels are quite?accommodating?to families in the summer time, as it is tourist season here. ?I have stayed at the Intercontinental, and Swiss Hotel and had good experiences. ?There is also a Hilton on Michigan Ave (in the Grant Park area), that my parents stayed at last summer that had a lot of kids staying there. ?I do not recommend the Club Quarters on Wacker (the rooms were really small and mine did not have a bath tub).
In the summertime there are trollies that run along Michigan Ave and State Street that hit all the Major attractions like Navy Pier, Michigan Ave, State Street, Union Station,?Millennium?Park, Grant Park and the Museum Campus. ?The trollies are free and a great way to get around. ?I frequently took them last summer when it was too hot for me to walk around the city with my giant belly.?

Not sure about all of them, but definitely the ones that go to the museum campus. Trollies aren't recession proof LOL.
I agree with the pp that all the hotels will be accomodating in the summer...you could try using priceline or hotwire to name your price, and just say you want a 4 star hotel, and make sure you specify the area (navy pier), otherwise you could end up at the north end of Michigan Ave. My DH and I stay downtown for a night here and there just to get away, and by using hotwire we've stayed at the Drake, the Intercontinental and the Knickerbocker for under $100 a night.
Have fun!
