2nd Trimester

Stocking up on diapers...

We bought a pack of Huggies for newborns, with the umbilical cord notch. We've also bought two packs of Pampers Swaddlers with the umbilical cord notch.

I also bought some wipes.

What are you doing? Stocking up on one brand or buying a little of two different brands?

We probably won't buy anymore until he gets here and we figure out what works best.

Re: Stocking up on diapers...

  • I think we will probably get some, but not too many of the newborns. W/ my previous DC the hospital always gave us some too and you never know how long the baby will fit in them.
  • Loading the player...
  • I have been buying a few different brands. I'll figure what I like best and then buy more once she is here.
  • I'm thinking of getting a small pack and see if it works for her.. If she likes it, then I'll go ahead and buy more...
  • Will use Seventh Generation in the hospital and probably the first week and then move to cloth diaper's.

We want to get past the meconium poo stage before we move to cloth.

  • We are cloth diapering.  We will probably do a newborn diaper rental for the first 3 months.  I already have 2 cloth diapers, need a lot more though!

  • I started buying diapers too.  I figure you can't have enough.  I think I have a pack of huggies for newborns, pampers for newborns and pampers size 1.  Just think, if you buy alittle at a time, then the cost won't be overwhelming when the baby comes.
  • I think your decision to wait and see what works best is a good one!!!  I would recommend not stocking up too much on any particular brand.  We were going with the swaddlers and then DD developed a rash from those.  Switched to Huggies Gentle Care and no problems since.

  • I'll probably buy a box of two or three different brands, to see what we both like best... but I don't want to buy too many NB size, I don't want to end up with a bunch of diapers that don't fit if I end up having a huge baby!
  • We got a couple of packs of newborns, but I won't buy any b/c I know we're going to be having a big baby and he/she will be out of them in no time.

We're going to buy the Costco brand diapers and they also sell Huggies there. Which ever one doesn't work out for us we will take back since Costco has that great return policy!

  • We have bought one box of size 1 Pamper's Swaddlers. I have heard nothing but great things about them and they are really soft so I am going to try to stick with them. I am waiting until after my shower to buy any newborn diapers b/c I know a lot of people like to add diapers as a little add on gift.
  • I just got a pack or two of the kind you got. We also got several packs of the Parents Choice, Walmart brand in all different sizes. I have no idea what to get. I figured beggars can't be choosy so if people are going to buy me diapers I am going to use them. Plus I have a whole buffet of diapers so I can see which ones I like best for when I have to start buying them.
  • I think you are probably good with what you've gotten.  I liked Swaddlers with my DD and Huggies with my DS.  My kids used Newborn size for a while, but I know plenty of babies that were out of the Newborn size within a week or two.

You'll want an excuse to get out of the house for a short trip anyway.  You want to be prepared, but not so much that you don't have a reason for getting out.

  • Keep this tid bit in mind...your child might not be able to wear disposable diapers. As a baby, I was allergic to them so I had to have cloth diapers. I would hate to waste money by stocking up and then not being able to use them. We will wait closer to the EDD to buy any diapers or wipes. We belong to Sam's Club and most likely will buy them there if all goes well.

  • MH mentioned started to stock up the other day.  Although I don't know which brand(s) we will get!
  • We're trying the Swaddlers Sensitive skin diapers only because DH has always had really sensitive skin.

We've only bought one box so far, but I figured we'd start doing that more often now. I'm hoping Giada likes those diapers but if we have to switch we will. There are always plenty of women that I work with who are pregnant, so any unopened boxes will make great shower gifts

  • I'm not planning to buy many at all before the baby comes.  I'll probably get some at my shower, and I know you get a few at the hospital.  We'll try those and see what works before we stock up.

We're a mile and a half from Target, so if we run out, I'll just send DH to the store.  Or one of the grandparents, who I'm sure are all going to be at our house as much as possible!!

Also, I'm toying with the idea of trying out cloth diapers, so I don't want to buy too many disposables.  The cloth diapers I will be buying ahead of time, although I'll probably give myself a week or so of figuring out this whole parenthood and breastfeeding thing before I try to add cloth diapering into the mix.

  • I cloth diaper DD but they will not fit this DC until at least 10 lbs.  For us Huggies leaked every time.  So, I will probably get 1-2 packs of pampers swaddlers nb but thats it since DD only fit them until 3 weeks.  Size one lasted a few months but I don't plan to get any yet.

P.S. Luvs worked great for us too.

  • We've had some people buying them for us. I think we'll hold off on buying any for now.

I've been adding money to a Target GC instead of buying them. ?

  • I'm stocking up on gift cards here and there. I figure they take up less space than packs of diapers. Also, it ensures we get the brand that works for us when the time comes.
  • We're using cloth- we already have our diapers for the first couple of months. They're so dang cute, I could scream.

With Rebecca, we had a couple of packages of Huggies NB and Pampers swaddlers NBs at home. We ended up using the Pampers. I hated the huggies. I used the pack and never bought more. They are much stiffer, IMO, than the pampers which I didn't like

  • We don't CD so with DS I stocked up on every brand imaginable and about 10 packs (jumbo) in each size. Used every one of them. DS was not allergic to any and I had no other issues with them and am not a brand snob =)

I'm doing the sane for #2 right now.

FYI - Walgreens and Rite-Aid have some decent diaper sales this week.

  • I have been stocking up on pampers and huggies when I see a good sale or have a good coupon. I only bought one of newborn though and got the rest in size one because DD grew out of NB in a week or so.
  • Instead of buying diapers DH and I talked about every time we go to Walmart to put $5 or $10 on a gift card and we can buy what we need when we need it.  I could buy one or two packs of diapers but I don't want to get overloaded and have so many we can't use them all.

As long as the wipes stay sealed will they last?

  • We have pampers, huggies, and bumgenius.  We are stocking up as much as we can in 1's and 2's.  We have 2 boxes of NB also.  We figure since we can't stock up on formula we can stock up on diapers.

You can also buy gift cards and put those away for diapers.

  • i think we're going to get small amounts of huggies and pampers in the beginning to see what works.
