NBR:Recommend your flat screen TV

My 20 year old Zenith TV is about to bite the dust.  I'm going to need to get a new one over the next few days.  Any recommendations on brand and size?  I'm leaning towards a 32" or 40" LCD but I'm open to suggestions.  Also, where did you buy yours?  Thanks!

Re: NBR:Recommend your flat screen TV

  • I think size depends on how far away you sit from it.  I do recommend Plasma over LCD, as I think the picture is better for sports on the plasma.  If you have a bright room the sales people will recommend a LCD over a plasma as they say it has less glare, but I honestly don't see much difference regarding glare.

  • We have a 37" Vizio. My only advice is to make sure you get a 1080p. I don't even know what that means, just the tech gurus in my family gave me that advice. I think it is a great deal for a really impressive TV. I think we paid right around $700 ish for it.

  • We have a 46" LCD 1080p Samsung. We bought it at Best Buy. Got a great deal on it. Most places will price match. We went with the LCD over the plasma because of the glare. The difference was big for us because of the way the lighting is in the room. I could tell a big difference in the store even. The glare would have drove me nuts.

  • We have a 40" LCD Samsung and we love it.  We preferred the LCD over the plasma.  I agree with Shawnsweetie--you want to get the 1080.

  • I too recommend the Samsung LCD 1080p.  We've had that tv for almost 3 years now and love it. Before buying, DH read consumer reports and reviews. After our purchase, he still wanted to confirm we made the right choice and asked every salesperson if they could buy any  tv for themselves, which one would they get.  They all picked Samsung without knowing we already bought it.

And yes, LCD has NO glare.

  • We just bought a 26" Insignia for our bedroom and I love it. DH is watching prices for one of the living room. I agree with everyone-LCD and 1080p are a must. There have been some good deals on TV's lately..watch Best Buy and Target ads.

  • Another word of advise, get one with more than just one HDMI input.  Not going to pretend I totally understand it, but if you only have one of those you can only hook up one HD item.  So like if you have cable/satalite and a blueray/hdvd, you could only use one.  Highly recommend one with at the very least two hdmi ports.  :)  Ditto 1080 and LCD.  :)

  • We have a Vizio from Sam's as well. We love it. Great picture.
  • We have 2 Sharp Aquos LCDs and we love them.  They are great.  We got one from Best Buy and one from HH Gregg.
  • We have a Samsung LCD and love ours. We found HH Gregg was the best deal and had the best customer service. We looked at Best Buy and just got ignored when we wanted help but HH Gregg the sales person took the time to explain the different brands, etc. I would go for the 40"
