Parenting after a Loss

uh-oh, I think we're teething

The past few nights, Maya has had a hard time going to sleep at night.  It's like she is trying really hard, but can't get into a slumber.  Once she's asleep she's out for the night, but the falling asleep is tough.

Sunday night she was SO exhausted and I figured just over-tired, so picked her up out of her crib and nursed her until she was really drowsy.  Last night I just picked her up out of her crib, held her and comforted her, and then put her back in her crib.  She was out in a minute.

Tonight I just felt around in her mouth, because WTF with the sudden anxiety about going to sleep?  And I think I might feel a tooth under her gum.  One tooth in particular that seems to be protuding farther out than the rest of her gumline. Nothing has broken through yet, but hmmm...

I'm going to check again in the morning, but that would explain it.  If we're dealing with teething already...oy.

  • Avery is starting to teethe a little too - no physical teeth yet but the drooling, the fussing, the gnawing on everything in sight...oye

She's also been waking up in the middle of the night and nursing like she has never nursed before.  I think she's going thru the 4 month growth spurt as well.

    Hang in there!

  • Well, that sucks for her... but exciting that your little girl is growing up!
  • Our Pedi told us Emerson was teething at her 4 mo apt. and nothing came through until about a month ago!  Sometimes it takes a while.  Good luck to you though!

  • Sounds like it.  Mario was teething and getting teeth by 4 months--he just got his 2 year molars and oh, they are a true joy--they are big and he howled at night for about 2 weeks.  So much that we busted out the baby orajel for night time--we figured he was old enough for a dab.

Isa used to gnaw on a frozen, wet washcloth. (She got her 2 year molars at about 16 months old--another joy). Sometimes, just trying to hold a little something cold over the spot, esp. at night, helps.

Good luck, hang in there, Jill

  • Oh dear. Is she drooling a lot? I've heard that is a sign...

Maybe its just the crazy storm.

  • Conner is teething too. I can see where the teeth (there are 2) are trying to come up. His favorite thing is a washcloth put in the freezer. He will chew on that for a while.
