Well THAT was not how I planned to spend my day.....

Mon. night I was eating dinner and a piece of chicken got stuck in my esophagus. I have this happen a few times, and usually after a few minutes it works it's way out one way or the other. (this was at about 7pm)

Fast Forward to yesterday am (Tuesday) the chicken is still in, I can't eat or drink a think because my stomach is blocked. 5:45am DH, the girls and I head off to the ER where they hook me up to IV and try a few different drugs to relax my esophagus to see if it would pass, none of which worked.

My parents came and got the girls, so Dave could be with me. And then were were told I was going into surgery to have the blockage removed. I had an endoscopy to remove the piece and they also "widened" the rings in my esophagus and said a lot of this was from severe acid reflux, which I didn't even know I had.

So that's how I spent my day. I am just coming out of om drug coma now. I am wondering if anyone has had something similar and how long your recovery was.

  • OMG I feel for you!! I had that happen to me in college (like you, it happens to me often where something "gets stuck"--but usually water or swallowing or in desperate times even induced vomiting it releases). I also had it happen to me last year. I have severe food allergies and so they always think it's related to that, but it's not.

I didn't have an endoscopy, but I know how scary it can be to have that happen. I, too, was given a ton of muscle relaxants and stuff before the darn things would pass! I was loopy for a good 10 hours after, and then I slept for 18 hours... woke up feeling fine. But DH was scared because I slept so long!!
