I hope this question doesn't get me banned from the EFF board...

So, I am trying to nudge DH (and myself) toward CDs but we are not fully committed yet. One question that has come up - will the baby have problems shifting between CDs and disposibles if we use the disposables when we are out of the house? I don't see why it would be an issue but I told him I'd ask. (I know there are special diaper bags to enable you to tote dirty diapers home with you, but I really don't see that scenario working for us.)

  • I don't think there would be a problem. ?That?said?you will WANT to use CDs out of the house. ?Sposies are ?much less reliable imo. ?Purchase a wetbag to carry wet/dirty ones. ?I love the ones at monkeyfootdesigns.etsy.ccom

  • The baby couldn't care less, unless he/she's allergic to something in one of the diapers...  I don't think my son has the intellegence yet to quite grasp whats on his tushie.  ;)  On the few times we've used sposies, it hasn't bugged him.

ditto! i have seen so many mamas changing their babys out of entire outfits at the park/baby massage/baby yoga classes that i frequent. all due to blowouts. we've had 1 up-the-back blowout in our whole cd'ing experience, and it was due to an improperly snapped diaper.

wetbags are great--no stink, no wetness, nothing. you just take it home and throw the whole thing in the pail!

  • We switch back and forth between sposies and CDs.  We use CDs at home and for short trips out.  For night time, day trips, and longer vacations we use sposies.  It doesn't seem to phase DD what type of diaper she has on.

  • I don't see that it would be a problem but I would think that you would prefer cloth even if you have to bring the diapers home with you. There are bags for them and it is very easy. But if you only wanted to do cloth at home I don't see how that would cause issues for your lo.

  • It won't be a problem. But ditto pp, you will prob prefer the CDs. They absorb moisture soooo much better, which is especially noticeable when your lo poos. :)
  • Just to ditto pp, you can switch back and forth and I'm sure your LO will not notice.?

I find it easier to use CDs when I'm out because I don't have to find a place to throw the dirty diaper away. I just put it in the wetbag. ?

Besides... you can get some really adorable wetbags!! :) ?

  • Nope, ds could care less what I put on him. Although the few times he's had a disposable on with no pants he's tried to pull it off but it's only because I think he's curious about the weird crinkling between his legs.

And ditto ditto ditto the pp's. Once you get into cloth you won't want to go back even for out and around. Far less (if any) wet leaks all over their clothes and poop blowouts are practically non existant. Trust me, you won't enjoy dealing with that in public. We put ds in disposables for a cross country drive to visit the inlaws because we figured it would be easier. Halfway there ds completely soaked through a diaper, his clothes and all over his car seat. He'd been in the diaper less than two hours. We used cloth on the way home!

  • ditto all pp's comments

we thought we'd use sposies when out and about, and after a few nasty poop blowouts (always when you're somewhere without a changing station of course) we now just use cloth everywhere. we don't have a fancy wetbag, just use the plastic bags from our produce or whatnot, throw it in the diaper bag, then empty into the CD pail at home.

DS doesn't notice a difference that i can tell as to what type of diaper he's in.

best of all, we haven't bought sposies in like 2 months!

  • Your little one won't notice or care which one you are using. And I agree with all the pp, you will probably prefer cds. But, we used sposies on DS until 3 months then made the switch. If we put him in a sposie now, he will get a rash and they stink, stink, stink.?
