If you did yoga before having a baby...

Did you find it helped you get through labour at all?

  • Yoga *totally* helped me with labor.  I've been practicing yoga for 3 years now, and the breathing and body awareness really came in handy.  I only pushed for 20 minutes!  Some of that is chance, but some of it was owed to learning how to use different muscle groups.
  • Absolutely. My OB said that it did as well. I tell all my friends to do prenatal yoga!!
  • it helped as far as relaxing/breathing, but not for duration
  • 100% yes. I did yoga for two years before and prenatal during pregnancy.  It totally helped with breathing and body awareness (like pp said).  i can honestly say that contractions weren't 'bad' until my water broke. even then i could get through them without meds.  i pushed for 2 hours though. but the nurse said later that she had never seen such good 'hips' on a first timer. i was able to hold them open by myself for those two hours! all the squats paid off. yoga is great at opening your hips, etc.

i recommend yoga to everyone i know. i'm a yoga pusher! i cannot wait to start up again. my studio even has mommy and me yoga.

  • Maybe....I went through 24 hrs of labor without pain meds before they made me get a C-section.  Can I attribute that to yoga? Not sure, but I'm sure it didn't hurt.
