Fenugreek-- weird side effect question

I was reading that a side effect of taking fenugreek is that it makes your sweat and urine smell like maple syurp. Has anyone actually had this happen? ?i am cracking up about this

I read that once you start smelling like syrup (which no one else can smell, just me - unless they're lying to me lol) you're taking the right amount.  I take 2 capsules 3x day.

  • is it a strong smell?
  • Yep, I smell like pancakes! Actually, DS refuses to nurse now if I forget to take it for a few days. I guess he likes the maple flavoring.

On the plus side, I don't wear perfume right now as DS is sensitive to smells, so at least my sweat smells like something other than sweat!

  • You will definitely be able to smell it in your sweat, pee, milk-- but my hubby swore he couldn't smell it.  I was taking 2 capsules every 5 hours and it really, really helped my milk supply

I think its strong. DH only noticed when I pointed it out.

  • Definitely.  I didn't notice any results until I took enough to make my pee smell like syrup.  I don't really notice it anymore, though.  Maybe I'm just used to the smell.

  • I'm totally lurking on the wrong board, but did anyone else read on CNN.com the other day that a factory proccessing Fenugreek seeds for use in food flavorings makes large parts of Manhattan smell like maple syrup for weeks at a time.  Apparently it comes and goes with no warning and there is nothing they can do to stop it.  Can you imagine being pregnant in Manhattan if maple syrup made you nauseous (it does me)?
  • Yes. ?My pits smell like pancakes, and Ian's pee does too.

I think this was on an episode of 30Rock, and they said something about terrorists releasing nerve gas or something. ?Anyway, it was funny. Smile?

It was actually on 30Rock, but it's also a real thing.  Some dept. in NYC did a huge study on it to make sure that it wasn't a gas leak or something potentially harmful.  They determined that it is just this food flavorings factory in NJ.
