Allison and I checked out the place yesterday. I bought a gift certificate from radioonedeals.com, so I got an annual pass for $28.75. Allison loved pointing at all the model trains and racing them! She was a little small for the play area but still had fun.
I was completely confused by the Thomas exhibit. I'm not sure we even really saw it. I noticed some Thomas characters riding through the main train displays. Was that the Thomas exhibit? Has anyone done the Thomas crafts? Holy cow, that was a disaster! They didn't tell me you have to go through a fairly creepy fun house to get to the crafts. Allison was freaking out, so I was trying to push the stroller, hold her, and make it through the darn fun house. Then we got to the crafts, and it was just a room with concrete floors, folding tables and chairs, and some Thomas coloring pages and crayons scattered around. There wasn't even an employee there (or in the fun house, for that matter).
When we tried to leave the craft room, we left through the other door. Based on the signage, I was under the impression that's what we were supposed to do. It led us into a "curtain maze" where the walls were all covered in striped curtains, and you had to figure out which curtains covered doorways. Total disaster. Again, Allison freaked, I had to hold her and push the stroller, and I couldn't find my way through there to save my life. We were going in a very small circle. I don't know if there was really a way out or if the whole thing was a nasty trick, but we backtracked back through the maze, into the Thomas room, and back through the fun house. For those who have been there, is there a way out of that stupid curtain maze? And who makes a fun house to get to some preschool crafts? Oh, and can we say, "safety hazard?!" If there had been a fire, I would have been in deep trouble.
So, I'm sure our next trip will be better when we just stick to the train displays and the play area. That part of the place was really fun!
Re: We went to Entertrainment Junction
OMG, I was laughing reading your post. I could have wrote that. They should have a disclaimer on that fun house. Nora freaked out too and I thought it seemed creepy for young kids. I felt horrible afterwards for making her go through that! I've taken Nora through there during the fall season and also at Christmas (which is a long and crazy story itself) and I thought both times it was totally wrong for little kids.
We haven't done the Thomas the Train thing that is going on but by the sound of it, I think we'll skip it!
With all of that said, Nora really does love going there to see the "choos" and to play in the kids area. It's always nice and clean which I like. What a great deal you got on a pass!!! Let me know if you want to meet up sometime. We have a pass too.
Wow, what an ordeal!
We just wenta few weeks ago, and only saw all the train displays and the fun area. I have no idea what area you are talking about? Was it behind the climbing kids part? We didn;'t go on that. Eithjer way it does sound crazy!
Melissa, the fun house and crafts were behind the cafe, to the left of it. I think the crafts are a limited-time thing.
When I went last summer with my niece and nephew, they were kind enough to tell me that the creepy fun house thing might not be great for my 3 year old niece so I declined. Plus, I think that was an extra cost. We did the train exhibit and the play area.
I wonder if they have an age suggestion on the fun house/maze area.
Sorry you had that experience! Ugh.
