Another birthday party date question...

Piper's birthday is April 13, a Monday. We were thinking of having her party the Saturday before that, the 11th, but Easter is that weekend. Do people usually have plans for the Saturday of Easter weekend? Our guest list won't be huge but I don't want to plan something when most people are busy. We don't attend church and have very little family nearby, so we don't usually have Easter plans, but I wasn't sure about other people...the other option is to do the next Saturday, April 18th. WWYD?

Re: Another birthday party date question...

  • We usually have a fish fry on the Friday before Easter, go to church on Easter Sunday and they spend the rest of the day on Sunday with family, but other than that, we never have plans on the Saturday of Easter weekend.  I would think that you would be fine having a birthday party on  that day.

  • Because we have both sides of our family (DHs and mine) we usually have plans for Saturday and Sunday, so we can fit everyone in, especially with Eli.  If it were me I would probably do another weekend.  We did something similar last year and had Eli's 1st b-day the Saturday of mother's day weekend and that was a mess.  No one came hardly.  This year, we will definitely not do that again.

  • We never do anything that Saturday. If anyone on your guest list travels away for Easter, that could be an issue.

  • We do only because we are usually traveling... Do most of your family live around here? If so, it wouldn't be an issue.

The only family coming will be the grandparents (who do live out of state but will happily come whenever we ask them to) and a few of Steve's local extended family...we don't expect the rest of our extended family to travel from out-of-state for b-day parties :-)

    Thanks for the input everyone!

  • I would def do it the weekend after her birthday, I would feel like the party was competing with Easter & sometimes with holidays the child can be a bit overwhelmed with everything going on.  It would also give you some downtime between party & Easter or vice versa.
