Breastfeeding

Upset when bottle is empty?

I bf in the am and at night.  DS gets bottles during the day of what I pumped the prior day.  He is getting 5-6 ounces about every 3 hours (on demand).  But he is so angry/upset when the bottle is empty.

Is this an indication that he might need more- or just what most babies do (especially when they are bf for their other feedings)?

I've done the calculators and it seems to be on target for his total ounces.

Re: Upset when bottle is empty?

  • He's hungry.  Start giving him 1/2 oz more & see if that helps - if not another 1/2 oz.  He's a growing boy!

  • Is he still actively eating when the bottle is getting close to finished?  DD went through this phase around 4-5 months where she was done eating but just playing/sucking for fun (she did the same thing after BFing).  If I replaced bottle/breast with a pacifier right away, she was happy.  You may want to try that?
  • My son started taking 6-7 oz at 4 months.
