Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Not a breakfast baby....

DD has recently decided she doesn't want to eat breakfast. I usually make her bottle first so I can use the formula to make her cereal. About 2 weeks ago she started crying as soon as she saw the bottle. She wont eat until she has some formula. Then it turned into she wont eat until she has her whole bottle. Now it is she only wants her bottle....no cereal. I tried making a smaller bottle so she thinks she has had it all. Nope...wants 8 ounces.
Anyhow.....anyone else have a DC that doesn't want food for breakfast only bottle?

  • Not sure how often your DC eats, but can you offer her breakfast later? My DD has her first bottle of the day around 6 or 6:30 am and I don't feed her breakfast until the next bottle around 9.

  • My DD isn't really into breakfast first thing in the morning.  She usually wakes at 6 or so to nurse, then nurses again at 8.  If I try to give her breakfast before 9, she won't eat it.  I've found on days where she refuses that if I save it for lunch she'll often eat the whole thing quite happily.  She loves dinner, though!

  • DD will have her full bottle and then "breakfast" about 30 mins to an hr later, not back to back.  Maybe she just does not care for the cereal...try mixing in some fruit in it.  Banana is my DD favorite.
  • Interesting---mine is like that as well.   He generally will nurse around 5:30am and then not get another bottle until daycare--maybe around 9 or so.  I try giving him breakfast between 7 and 7:30 and he will eat SOME but not much.  I want him to eat more cereal for the iron though  I'm thinking maybe give his daycare his breakfast and he can eat that instead of the bottle or something.  Not sure what to do.

  • Our DD was a bit slow at getting use to solids also.  I'm sure that's all it is and I would just keep trying.  You could also try feeding her solids at a later time.  Most days, I EBF my DD when she wakes up and she'll get another bottle at daycare before her first nap, and then she'll get her first solids of the day around 10:30/11am.

  • Here is her schedule:

     7a-8a GET UP

8:30'ish (depending on what time she got up) BREAKFAST (bottle and cereal)

10:30-11:30ish NAP (sleeps for about 2 hours on the dot)

12:30-1:30ish GET UP & HAS LUNCH

    5pm DINNER WITH US

6pm BED (and no...I don't put her to bed...the kid has an internal clock and when 6pm rolls around she is rubbing her eyes and is done. We tried to hold off her dinner until a little after 6pm one night to keep her up and she fell asleep in her highchair 5 minutes into it! She also sleeps all through the night)

And of course she has bottles through out the day too.

  • I don't think it is that she doesn't like solids. She started cereal when she was just shy of 4 months. She loves food. She never had a problem with breakfast before. It just started out of no where.
