Parenting after a Loss

is she too young?

at what point is it ok to try mylicon drops?

hadley was up the entire night last night with what was clearly gas/stomach issues.  she's become harder to burp and has started spitting up (just a small amount) with almost every feeding the last day or so.  she seems fine otherwise and hasn't lost her appetite and has plenty of wet and dirty diapers (and she's continuing to gain weight).  we see the pedi on friday and i'll ask then, but just curious when you tried these?

Re: is she too young?

  • If it doesnt give any warning for giving to younger newborns I would use them. I'd check my bottle but I sent it off to my dads in the diaper bag. I think it would be fine!

  • I used them when she was about 4 days old.  They are very gentle, and a lifesaver in the early days when they get gassy and there's no other way to help.  I probably used them 3 or 4 times a day, but I think the max dose is 12 times.

  • yup they are fine, we didn't see much of a difference - most babies have a lot of stomach stuff since it isnt very developed yet

    hope she feels better!?

  • You might be able to call & just ask the desk nurse at the pedi's.  If I remember right, DD was using the drops by the time she was 2 weeks old...  (and thank GOD we had them!)
  • We used the drops pretty much right away and we still use them every now and then.  They seem to really help Avery when she's in obvious discomfort.

  • thanks ladies.  i'll have to try them next time she has this starting.
  • at my 2 week appt the pedi asked me if I had given them to her just as a "out of curiosity" so I'm assuming they are ok

I prefer gripe water over the mylicon though - so does Avery

  • I used it a few days ago. I think it really helped!
  • According to our pedi, Mylicon is so gentle that you pretty much can't OD a child on it.  I think we started hers around 2 weeks, but would have started sooner if we'd known about it!
