2nd Trimester

my sister is expecting!!

so yesterday, I found out that my sister is pregnant!!!! Big Smile Obviosuly it is very exciting news to me because we are pregnant at the same time and our babies will be a couple of months apart.. except for she is a little bummed because she is in the middle of planning a destination wedding in November and she will be due in Oct... Obviosuly this wasnt planned and now she doesnt know what to do about the wedding since she already bought a dress and sent out save the dates! I told her I would post this and get any advice that you guys have.

Re: my sister is expecting!!

  • Congrats to your sister!!

If she still wants the wedding that she planned, then perhaps she can change to January? I know she sent save the dates already but I'm guessing  the guests have not booked anything yet so she has time to tell them of the change in the plans.

  • That is exciting news! My sis keeps going back and forth on having another baby.  I really think she should.  I dont have much advice for your sis other than either keep the date and change the dress, move it up or hold off until after the baby.

  • since she only sent out save-the-dates and not the official invitation, she can change the date... maybe for february/march instead?

  • That's great news! I'll never share pregnancy with my sister's since niether of them are even married yet. I agree with past posters about moving the wedding back. She can try to have it in October, but I think it would be better for her to not have to stress with the planning of the wedding while pregnant.
  • How many weeks are between her EDD and wedding date, and where is she planning to have it? If it's too far away, or not enough time between the dates, she may want to consider planning something closer to home if she can, possibly for the same date or maybe a few weeks out from what she was planning. Since she sent out save-the-dates and not solid invites, I'd think she could just send another set of save-the-dates with a little "Plans have changed!" type of message (not necessarily mentioning the baby if she doesn't want to announce it yet).

I was also planning my wedding (for 9/12/09) when FI and I found out that I'm pg and due 07/30/09. We're stuck with the wedding date (already reserved locations) so we're just going to go with it and hope for the best. I already have my dress, too, so I'm just crossing my fingers that some last-minute alterations will be enough to still fit into it... if not, I'm fine with finding another dress last minute even though I know it wouldn't be the one I'd prefer.

  • That's great news!

As for wedding advice: DH and I were going to be getting married next month, but we were also TTC and knew if we got pregnant that we'd bump up the wedding.  The wedding plans became way too overwhelming while I was battling m/s, etc...so DH and I eloped and got married by a random priest in D.C.  It was awesome!  I'd advise her to bump the wedding up to pretty soon (before she starts getting really big and won't want to be in a wedding dress).  Your priorities shift, and all of a sudden it seems like the wedding takes second priority to the baby.  At least that's how it was for us: all we wanted was to be married to one another.  We saved a ton of $$ and headache the way we ended up doing it.

  • I vote to keep the date and maybe change the dress depending on the style of it.  If she's already ordered one I bet she could still get a good price if sold it.  She may lose some money, but it's better than nothing. Plus, I would have every detail planned before the baby gets there.  Do not think you're going to want to have a lot of last minute appts in the month after the baby before the wedding.
  • That's great news!  Congrats to your sister!

Maybe she can have it locally instead of a destination wedding?  Depending on what the save the date detailed.  She could always bump it back a few months.  I'm sure people she invited would understand.  She doesn't want to be stressed in the last trimester trying to get ready for a wedding and a newborn.
