Breast pump and WIC.
Is it true that WIC will supply women with a hospital grade breast pump?
I am really hoping so because I was looking at breast pumps at BRU and they are so expensive! Plus so many people I talked to said they barely used the pump because the baby always ate so they didn't have any spare milk to pump.
I was wondering if anyone knows about this so I can take the pump off my registry.

When I went and got my WIC they told me the same thing but they did also say that my chances of getting to use it were slim to none because they only had 2 and it goes to people who need it first, had their baby first, maybe having latching issues. It works kinda on a waiting list system. But.. I have heard that my hospital here rents one out so your hospital may too..
EDIT: let me also add that you have to have the pregnancy medicaid and be recieving WIC for them to loan you a breast pump or even the formula incase someone doesn't know.

I wish you wouldn't have posted the link to the income elgibility requirements. That depresses me.
Since I don't qualify for WIC, I don't know. I have to do things the old fashion way and pay for everything myself.

hmm. I don't know if I should apologize for being on wic now or what.. I already felt bad about it but now I feel worse. I lost my job for being pregnant and thats the only help I can get. We have maybe $1200 a month to pay all our bills and get groceries. I'm sorry if that makes me look bad..

Don't feel bad. Sh!t is bad right now and I only wish I would qualify for some sort of aid.
Well I've seen people on here post and brag about their government help and to me its more embarrassing than anything. I'm very independent and wish I could just pay for everything on my own the old fashioned way but sometimes things just don't always work out in your favor. Thats the only help I can get since i'm a full time college student. Maybe i'm just emotional this morning! It just kinda got to me that she said it that way.. it wasn't necessary.
Don't feel bad, WIC is a program for people who need it. You obviously need it, as do I. I was so embarassed to go & apply at first and I couldn't be happier that I did now. Knowing that I'm getting the proper nutrition for my baby & myself throughout my pregnancy is certainly worth the slight embarassment of paying with a WIC check at the grocery store. Don't let people make you feel bad for doing whatever you need to do for yourself and your baby. Especially people that have probably never had to struggle.

It varies from state to state - but in most states they'll cover the rental fee it if there is a medical reason it is needed and a doctor prescribes it (like child is in the NICU, mom is having supply issues, etc). And, usually they'll cover the rental fee for 3 months.

Wow. God forbid anything ever happen to your or your husband's job and you have to go stand in the WIC line. Would you rather people feed their baby water and bread crusts than accept help from one of the few government programs that is actually worthwhile? Judge not, lest ye be judged. The measure you give will be the measure you get, my friend.
-sighs- I?ve been on WIC at a very young age before. I was taking care of two beautiful girls and working two jobs as a single parent, so yes many in this situation need government help.
Too the people who make remarks as that lady above have not a clue what people in that situation go through on a daily basis to provide for their children.
