How long does it take to get your DC down for a nap?
And how long does he or she sleep? I realize this answer may vary by age.
We've been working on his naps and it is getting better. But it consistently takes me 30-45 min. to get him down for a 30-45 min. nap. VERY frustrating.
Re: Two questions about naps.
It really depends on the type of day we are having. He always falls asleep in my arms then wakes up and protests as soon as I put him down...so we do the rocking and cuddling for a good 30 minutes before naps. His typical naps are about 1-2 hours although some days he lives off 4 or 5 10 minute catnaps..those are not fun days!
1. If I put her in her swing for a nap she will go to sleep on her own. If I want to put her down in her crib or something that doesn't move, I rock her for about 5 minutes and put her down.
2. Usually 30 minutes on the dot, but she has been throwing some 2 hour afternoon naps in the mix recently.
IMO under 1 hour is not a nap because a sleep cycle has not yet completed.
DD sleeps on average 90m-2 hours per stretch, then up for anywhere from 1-2 hours and sleeps 8 hours at night.
She goes to sleep on her own. When awake, we eat, change, play and I make sure that she is full and dry as the 2 hour mark approaches because I know she will fall asleep soon.
Interesting. DS routinely sleeps about 12-14 hrs. overnight so I don't expect long naps during the day, but I DO want it to take less time to get him down if he's only going to sleep for 30 min.
DS is a little sleep monster! He goes down at 7 PM and sleeps until 7 AM or so (getting up 2-3 times depending on how long the first stretch is).
Then, he's up for an hour, down for 45 minutes to an hour for most of the day, except for one 3-4 hour nap. I'm JUST starting to get better at figuring out his daytime sleep routine, so I save his "swing" time for just before he gets tired and he'll usually fall asleep in his swing (for his short naps). Otherwise, I put him on me, pat his back and he's down in 5-10 minutes (depending on when I catch him in terms of drowsiness).?
Wow. You're not kidding. OMG. I feel lucky I've now gotten DS up to two 30-45 min. naps during the day. It used to only be one. LOL
It just goes to show you how different babies can be!
