My mom made me two fake Maya style slings. We just used the pattern off their website and got the rings from slingrings.com (I think, recommended off the maya website). I've yet to use them b/c my LO isn't holding her head up yet and she seems to prefer being worn upright. I think MrsDonkey made a fake Moby. You could page her.

Do you have a link to a pattern? What's the limit on size for a Moby (or copycat Moby)??
