DH and I fail at safe sex. I O'd earlier than I thought I would this cycle, and we had way beyond perfect timing. I am having my surgery on Wednesday and will be 10 DPO then. Does anyone know how bad this is? Would it affect anything? When I was PG last time, I didn't get my BFP until 12 DPO....and I know one cycle has nothing to do with the next, but I'm slightly nervous. I would be beyond thrilled if I was PG this cycle, but I'm worried about having surgery and being 10 DPO.... Confused

Are you going under for this...I know the biopsy was just a local right? I would imagine you are going under, and am not sure what effect or dangers are associated with this when you are pg. I would def tell the Dr. that you COULD be pg if the bw doesn't show that you are, and see what pain meds, etc. could be a no no. If it's a local, my DDS told me it's only a prob w/pre-e. GL either way.

Definitely mention this to your doc prior to surgery! Have they done your pre-surgical exam and health history? Mention it then, they should do a test.

get a blood test. I believe it will show if you're pregnant way before a urine test will.

They are using general anestesia, so I will be completely out. I just wasn't sure if 10 DPO was too early to affect anything....

If you are pg, that could be a good thing that you are so early, but obviously you need to know and tell your dr. (I know you will, but just saying).

From what I recall from my Dev. studies...you may be okay, but there are probably some risks. Let us know what the Surgeon says.

My experience has been that if you think you might be pregnant, they won't put you out.

I just had surgery in Dec. and they are required to take a pregnancy test for all women that come in just in case they are pregnant. Even if they know for sure that they aren't, they still take a pregnancy test. So you should be safe either way, I would let them know. But I also wouldn't get too worked up about possibly being pregnant until you know.

I ended up having emergnecy surgery at 7 DPO (had my appendix out), ten days later I found out I was pregnant. The doctors said that it was early enough that everything should be OK. They were worried about the radiation exposure from the CAT scan that I had, but they said all they can do is monitor baby july and see how things go. They will run all kinds of tests on you before you have the surgery, I am sure they will do blood work to make sure you aren't pregnant.

at 10dpo the odds of the surgery effecting the health of the baby are very low since there is barely any developement yet however the stress of the surgery as well as anesthesia can cause m/c...

BUT remember you are having your thyroid removed, the crash in TSH hormone can also cause M/C so I would ask for a serum hcg during your pre-op and then again a couple days after.

Also, Be sure to ask for a thyroid supplement while in recovery and I mean ASAP while in the hospital, it lowers the risk of m/c since you will slowly be supplementing the hormone.

I think PP already said something similar but when I had my thyroid surgery, they took blood when I was checking into the hospital so I think they can test to see if you are KU. GL!
