I hate tv show deliveries (not reality ones)

Why do they always make the women scream while they are pushing? You cannot really push well and scream at the same time. It annoys me because I tried this when I delivered DS and the nurse had to set me straight. My tv show training failed me big time. Now I know to save the screams for the moments in between pushing.

    Hmm, I totally screamed/grunted while pushing!  My mom could hear me in the hallway.  I remember hearing others while I was impatiently waiting for DD to be ready to go.

    Really? But when you are pushing aren't you holding your breath? And your mouth is closed. I remember grunting and screaming some at the end of each push but couldn't do it during.

    I was thinking the same thought when I was watching that movie The Women.  Debra Messing is screaming her lungs off as she's "pushing" and out pops baby... wish it was that easy!

    I can see being able to sort of hiss out some air, if that makes sense. But open mouthed screaming like they do on tv- I just don't see how this can be done while truly pushing.

    I think i saw a preview for this episode over the weekend.  Is she delivering at her house or something?  It looked interesting.  Stick out tongue

    Yes, she was at a house but that's all I can tell you.  I don't normally watch the show. I watched it years ago and checked it out for a few minutes on my day off.

    Lol!   My DH was shocked when there was no curtain blocking off all "that down there. "  He was expecting me to curse, scream and squeeze his hand to the point of breaking while he lovingly patted my hair saying "It's okay." In reality- I never  yelled, but kept getting yelled at by the OB b/c I was trying to call out my baby's name while pushing.  Haha.  TV deliveries crack me up.  Now he points and says "That's a lie!!!  THere's no curtain!!"
