Would this bother you? re naming DC

DH and I have decided to name DD Emilia, but I am having second thoughts.  First, whenever I say the name I feel like I have to clarify "with an e" - I know it wouldn't be an issue once people knew the name, but still...Second, DH's cousin has a friend whose DD is named Emilia - I know it sounds removed, but we're all in the same town and we hang out with each other occasionally (at cousin's parties or playgroups) - but only a few times a year.  Would you use the name?  Would you feel weird about it when you see the other friend??

  • The cousin friend thing would not bother me at all.

I think there are more names than not that you have to explain spelling and that's only when they need to spell it (and how often is that?).

  • If I really liked a specific name, I would use it no matter what.
  • its more of an honor to have your kid named after someone. if you dont make a big deal of it----then no biggie
  • I wouldn't feel weird about it, its a name and eventually you will probably run into someone with the same name.  If you like the name then use it.  I think its a really pretty name.
  • I'm glad to hear it shouldn't bother me - I am already attached to the name and I can't find anything else I like as much!  Thanks ladies!
  • I have a really stupid question: ?is it pronounced like Amelia? ?Because I always thought they were different and am confused about your spelling issue. ?Beautiful name!
  • The cousin thing would not bother me. The "with an E, not an A" would bother me, but that's just me.

  • Just expect spelling or pronunciation errors. It shouldn't be a big deal. I know a girl named Kyrsten (keer-sten) who often has to correct people when they're reading it off of a paper. That's the case with many names, though.

They are pronounced differently, but I think they can sound pretty similar so when I'm telling someone the name for the first time I feel the need to clarify it.  Hopefully that will pass - besides, we plan to use the nn "Emmie" so then it won't be a big deal.  I'm glad you like the name - I've liked it for years and am kinda sad its gotten more popular lately.
