DD screams in public

We went out to an early dinner on Sat night to avoid the crowd. DD normally does really well in restaurants but the last two times we have gone out she starts screaming.

She will scream and we said shhhhh or no Mya and she thinks it is funny and continues to do it. On Sat, I took her away from the table and walked around while DH ate then we switched and ended up leaving in a rush to not disturb others.

I am not sure what to do. I try No and she just laughs like it is a game. Anyone else have a toddler doing this and can offer tips?

  • I obviously don't have a toddler, but one of my friends takes her son out of the restaurant and puts him in time out for a couple minutes.?

  • Oh boy, that sounds like us on Saturday.  DH and I went out to breakfast with my parents and Justin started doing this right there in First Watch.  He also does this at home during mealtimes, but this was the first time he's done it in public.

One thing I try to do is just shush him quietly and tell him, "Ssshh, inside voice."  It doesn't always work but fortunately it did on Saturday.  At home, I will tell him to use his inside voice, but if he doesn't after a couple of admonishments like that, we just ignore him and he generally stops.

It's embarrassing.  I hope you don't have to deal with it very long.......there are so many things about toddlerhood that I would rather do without!

  • Well that is good to know I am not alone. I do hope this passes soon because it is so embarrasing and I hate the dirty looks we get. I will continue to try the shhhhh and use the inside voice idea to see if that helps.
