Dry skin on baby's face?

DS has what I am guessing is dry skin on his face. Its the only way I can think of to describe it, its red and scaly looking. I already don't typically use soap when I wash his face, I tried putting regular baby lotion on his face and that make him break out. I bought some Aveeno lotion made for babies with excema that I have tried for about a day. What do you use?

Re: Dry skin on baby's face?

  • i really don't do anything mainly b/c of not wanting her to breakout.  maybe some Eucerin?

  • DD had dry, red skin on her chin when she was about a month old, and we used baby aquaphor on it (suggested by our pedi). It worked and was back to normal within a couple days. She hasn't had it again since.

  • he started with dry red rough skin on his jawline and then it started getting yellow crusties. we took him to the dr and they said it was excema that was irritated and possibly a little infected and prescribed us a topical antibiotic ointment and also said aveeno or aquaphor was okay to use.?
  • Eucerin/Aquaphor was the only lotion that didn't break DD's face out in the early stages.  Now I use this Johnson & Johnson Natural stuff on her skin and it's fantastic.  It smells so good and it hasn't broken her out yet.  She's a drool factory now, too, so it really helps keep her chin from getting irritated.
  • We use aquafor for small break outs but Olivia has had big red scaly spots all over her face lately so the pedi gave us a RX for  hydrcortozone (sp?) cream.

We can only use it 2 x's a day for 3 days then we have to wait 4 or 5 days to use it again. It usually clears her up overnight though.

  • We use Cetiphil on his face and Aveno on his body. But for the body that is because of my allergies, not his!
