9 months...not crawling?

Hi, ladies!

I was just wondering if anyone is in the same boat (or WAS on the same boat)....the twins are 9 months now and DD started crawling (wounded army style :o) a few weeks ago, but our DS has not.  Should I be worried?  Anyonw experience this?  How long did it take for them to crawl?  Thanks, ladies!  Hope everyone's having a nice evening!

Re: 9 months...not crawling?

  • Mine just turned 9 months yesterday and neither of them are crawling yet.  They are both scooching all over the place and moving backwards but no forward crawling yet.  They are up on all fours and rocking though.  I wouldn't be worried.  I hear some kids never even learn to crawl and go straight to pulling up, standing and walking first.

  • Abby has been full on crawling since about 8 months, but Lily still isn't (they are 9 1/2 months now).

When I took them for their checkup, the pedi said crawling isn't even a milestone they track any longer since a lot of kids go straight to walking.  She said it's important that they can go from all fours to sitting and back and able to pull up by 9 mo, not so much the crawling.  She just started doing both these things right at about 9 mo.

  • My ped wasn't concerned at all.  They were crawling by their 12 month appointment.
  • Mine have really just gotten good at it in the last few weeks.  DD before DS.  DS was insisting he could walk first and skip crawling.  He finally got it together.
  • My DD didn't crawl until 10 mos, she was walking before 11 mos.  Just think.. they are saving their pants.  Grass stains were hard to get out!
  • My twins are both doing the rocking thing at 8.5 months, so it will be soon for them - BUT, my singleton didn't crawl until 11 months!!  Walked at 16 months.  Now that the twins are about to crawl, I'm realizing how WONDERFUL it was that he wasn't mobile until much later!  Everyone goes at their own pace - I wouldn't worry about it!
  • DS started to crawl RIGHT at 9mos- almost to the day - before that he barely even scooted... he was a bigger kid so i think he just didn't want to lug his chunk around :)  I wouldn't worry- some kids never crawl and go right to walking/cruising.
  • According to some literature that I was reading on milestones and stuff, that although the average age to crawl is around 6-7 months, many babies don't crawl and go straight to walking.
  • Max "crawled" for the first time yesterday - it's a little weak :).  But Luke is nowhere near crawling.  I can wait, these 2 already have me running :)
  • Mine didn't crawl until about 12m. They were wicked late on their gross motors.

  • We didn't have a crawler until 10 months.  And then we had walkers around 14 months.

  • My two just turned one last Friday (they are 10 mo corrected age).  DD started crawling about a month ago.  DS is nowhere near moving any time soon.  Just in the past week or so he'll stay on his belly for a period of time (he used to instantly roll over onto his back if we put him on his tummy).  I figure (hope) he'll catch on when he is ready.
