xp: ttts surgery done

This is littlewonder's DH, reporting in briefly as instructed by my DW (is that an official abbreviation?). She was having a lot of discomfort yesterday evening as we were hanging out at our hotel, so we gave our doc a call and he said to head into Labor & Delivery and one of his people would check it out (via ultrasound). Aside from the continued fluid build up, they determined that Baby A (the recipient) was experiencing heart compromise (an absent A Wave or something like that). That moved us to a stage 3 TTTS. So we were admitted late last night, finally were finished with all the pre-op stuff at 2 a.m., slept till 7ish, and the surgery was performed at 9 a.m. this Sunday morning, Feb. 15th.

The surgery went very well. It lasted about an hour and a half. They lasered 11 blood vessels in the placenta (i.e., the culprits which have been causing the blood transfusion) and also drained off about 1-1.5 liters of amniotic fluid from Baby A's sac. DW did great, the babies handled everything well, so now it's hurry up and wait. The first big landmark is the ultrasound 24 hours after the surgery. So that's scheduled for 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. The doc said that we've done everything we can do on our end - now we just have to see how things settle out. The chance that both babies would make it is about 65%, that one baby would survive is close to 80-85%. So those are the odds. If all continues to go well, we'll fly home on Tuesday sometime. Thanks for going through this crazy story with us. We so appreciate every prayer, every comment, and every other way in which you bless us. -DH
