Baby Names

nicknames for Constantine?

DH and I were discussing names yesterday (still pure theory), and one of the boy names that came up was Constantine. It's fairly popular in Russia where we are from, and it's the name of one of our close friends. The phonetic spelling is Konstantin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konstantin), and the Russian nickname, for home use, would be Kostya.

What "Americanized" nicknames come to mind for Constantine? TIA

Re: nicknames for Constantine?

  • The only thing I can think of is Conner as a nickname.

  • I had a friend back in the day named Cleon Jr. and everyone called him Con. It worked for him!

  • It may come to you when the baby is here...sometimes you need to see their face first.

  • The first thing that popped into my mind was Connie.  Of course I tend to think of nicknames as being more cutesy than Con or Conner/or.

  • I'd go with Kostya - why not? I know a few guys who go by Sascha, whos name are Alexander...same principle. Otherwise you're stuck with Stan.
  • What's wrong with Kostya? I like it and it's more organic than coming up with an "American" nickname for a name that isn't as common here.
